So I crashed my bike...

I'm sure that there are plenty of morbid bastards on this forum, and so people like me have a responsibility to cater to your needs.

I should have been killed, but luckily I got away with a fucked wrist and a few bruises. The bike wasn't so fortunate, as you can see from the pictures attached.

Just so you know, it wasn't my fault. Some old man pulled out in front of me on an A road and I couldn't see her (long story). Needless to say, it's a write-off and I'm lucky I wasn't going very fast (about 35 indicated).

Christ I'm lucky.

I was just thinking that myself, the bike seems to have survived pretty well other than the front end falling off. Hell i've seen heavier bikes hit things head on at far faster speeds and not come off that badly!.

might be worth sending those pics to aprilia see what they have to say about the front end dropping off after a relatively low speed spill Thumbs Up

Palmer, wasn't your crash a side-of-a-car job, too? I don't think the RS50s cope too well with being stuffed into the side of a car TBH.

Going for the 125 after the insurance payout?

Jack

Might do. Since I'm 16 I'll have to wait if I do, but I might be getting a couple of hundred from a personal injury claim if I'm very lucky - in which case I'm getting a used CBR600RR or something for when I'm 17. My parents definitely won't buy me a bigger bike after they saw what I did to my RS50.

Just out of interest, what does everyone think of the Spain's No.1 paint job? I'm considering getting one, they're more colourful too so I might have a chance at being seen next time someone decides to pull out in front of me.

Don't waste money on a bright colour scheme. Advanced riding lessons and a stebel nautilus would be a far better investment Thumbs Up

I was thinking about getting one of those incredibly loud horns. Trouble is, all the websites that sell them seem to be in the US. I'll have a look on eBay, cheers for the link.

As for advanced riding lessons, what would you recommend? I assumed that they were all for half riders on proper bikes, who had at least passed their A2.

They usually are, but asking a riding school if they could give you some advanced instruction while you're on L plates might work. The only difference is you can;t use motorways.

i would be contacting aprilia also mate if i was you...

that point in the frame should be one of the strongest and for it to "tear" the box away from the stock at a weld point like that is down to a failure they should have seen when xraying those welds!!!

the other bike looks like it split both legs as the springs are showing..this is a design point to take the execive forces of a front end smash(the bike takes the brunt you dont)

but for a head stock to tear away from the frame especially in a low speed collision is not heard of normally...

let us know what you do mate and glad you didnt come off as bad as the bike as!

depends how the bike crashed ultimately, ive binned it a t 20mph roughly, rear lost massive grip, then dug in a chucked me over the bars coming out of a slow right hander, front frame was a right off and forks an all the body work just becuase of the way the bike bounched around etc....

To be honest this is why no one (with any sense) buys a 50 brand new (or any bike really).

But EVERY 16year old crashes their bike at some point.

Its a law.
