I cant help but notice that there are more car accidents and bike accidents in summer, or when the sun is out..

Just this month I have seen a bike accident (biker was ok but bike wrecked).

I have seen 3 car acidents and noticed that traffic had built up on the a406 twice with huuuuge tail backs which could only mean accidents! that equals five!

I would of thought we all could see and stop quicker in weather like this?

anyway just thought I would get that off my chest! I hope not to see any more bikers posting accidents here otherwise I will start getting the bus, and even that is risky nowadays cause one almost hit me the other day!

More bike accidents because many bikers don't break their bikes out of hibernation until Easter then put them away again in September.

I thought it would be common knowledge that theres a rise in bike and car accidents in the hot weather. More people out on the road, more summer riders/summer drivers and more people raging their cars and bikes about results in more crashes and accidents.

The simplest question you could ever ask.

More bikers about = More crashes.

yeah all good points but car accidents are high. I put it down to the long days we have and more people go out after work to socialize and drink etc. more volume of people on road in general and because the weather is nice and dry people go faster and the heat can fustrate drivers i guess.

It kills me riding in my gear in this heat but I rather boil then crash and burn and not have it on.. I know that from experience.

But still just as long as everyone on the forum is aware, or something to think about when on the road..

A particularly nice day makes people docile, so they don't pay as much attention to wtf they are doing.

Glare probably has something to do with it too.

Personally I'd attribute a large number of motorcycle accidents to the following:

Riders who ride in the wet are very aware of how easily they could spill at any time. As a result, they ride more carefully, though there is an increase in 'spills' but probably a decrease in 'crashes'.

Riders who are out in the dry will probably be hooning it around (I know I do). Flying down roads in bright sunlight, you know you're going to stick to the road well, but when that one car does pull out on you whilst you're shooting around, you're in big trouble. I'd say a decrease in 'spills' and an increase in 'crashes' (and deaths).

Pure speculation. If anyone has any stats that could (dis)prove this please provide.

You can, but they will still be going too fast to stop in time....

Another thing is that people reactions times can drop when it gets hotter, as their brains are not 100% on the task in hand like driving.....

There are far more kittens wandering around to distract you.... God how i hate passing the Uni...

Get a day like today, where it has rained like mad, and the roads were really washed clean of all the nice sticky stuff. And all the grit and crap was deposited into the middle of the roads... Was a nightmare comming home tonite what with water all over the roads and grit etc right in the middle of the lanes.
