I was wondering - the missus has got a 2007 YBR125 at the moment as a hire bike while her own YBR is being repaired after a stupid cager ran into the back of her.

Her own bike was carbed, and has a kickstart. Previously when she has left the lights on and the battery was flat I have kickstarrted it.

Now, the hire bike is fuel injected, but also retains the kickstart. Surely if the battery was flat then there wouldn't be enough juice to get the fuel pump going and it wouldn't start?

Seems strange that they retained the kickstart on a bike with fuel injection - I suppose it would get you going if the battery was low and had enough juice to get the pump going.

I've bump started a fuel injected bike a few times before that's had a completely flat battery, and it's started fine, so I would imagine kick start isn't much different.

I don't know why it worked though, it just did!

I guess there's enough juice to get the fuel pump going just enough to get it started enough to get the charging system flowing.

The tough power bit I guess is the starter motor. You're removing that strain from the system.

I guess if the battery was /totally/ /totally/ flat it might not work.

This is mainly me thinking out loud though...

I watched a bloke down my road try to bump his BMW f650 after leaving the ignition and lights on while cleaning it, after such a stupid mistake i thought he deserved to sweat a bit before offering my optimate, so i just watched him running up and down the road trying to dump the clutch in what seemed to be 1st gear Laughing .

I bump-started my 'busa a few times when I first bought it, coz the battery was knackered. Not too difficult.

Hi

Most fuel injection system will retain a decent amount of fuel pressure in the fuel rail when the ignition is switched off.

Just depends it that is enough to get it running long enough to produce power to fire up the ignition and injection.

All the best

Keith
