Hi, you may not know me, although ive been a member for a while i dont post often, and was hoping for some advice. Im starting trackdays this year as a serious hobby, and need to choose a bike as soon the nice weather should be here... and heres the situation...
its getting nearer that time where i need to pick a bike to start tracking and get some practise in so i can decide if i want to try and invest into racing. now if im gonna do this, i need something that will be mildly competetive on a range of courses.
the amount of money i have avalible in total to spend on this is £1k, i know its not an aweful lot really, but on top of that ill need to pay for a few trackdays and fuel and probably slip a few notes to the mate who owns the 4x4 thats gonna get me there. and any parts if it breaks. so i need to keep the rest of the money in reserve really.
ive got a few thoughts in the air, but i need to find the right bike at the right price. i wont be buying quite yet, because ideally i want my old GS500 project out of the garden first to make space for it. so i need to finish that before i buy.
current thoughts are a GSXR600 SRAD, because they seem cheap enough in track formats, although, i dont know how well they can corner or there speed potential... RD350YVPS (my dad wants me to get one, im not too sure, seems a bit ropey) VFR NC30 - apparently one of the most reliable racers but it sounds a bit bleeeh. ZXR600 F - cheap and nippy
those are just random ideas in the air, but i dont want to be limited to just those. whatever i get it needs to be mildly competetive on a trackday, and be relatively cheap to buy. i want ideas, and information on those bikes. i dont mind if its two or four stroke since its track only, if a twostroke can keep up than all well and good, but id have thought they only go as well as a 400 :/
i know, massively long description of crap. but serious posts only please as well, i dont know what to get here. ive never owned a sportsbike, but ive ridden my old bucket like one, and it just hasnt got the potential to do as well as id like. ____________________ GS 500 E ...... and i like it |

Hi
Suspect the ZX6R would be the cheapest option in that list, but to be honest people use all sorts. At Silverstone yesterday there was an SZR660 which was one of the quicker bikes in the fast group.
The 400s seem to be too much in demand to make a cheap track bike. GSXR might well be a better bike but more expensive.
If you want to go racing then you will need to spend a hell of a lot more to be competitive for most classes, so this is likely to be just a track day bike. In which case don't worry too much about choosing the best bike, go for what turns up that is suitable for the money you have and practice.
All the best
