Should I stay or should I go? Confused Confused

We've all heard that song , should I stay or should I go..... this is completely out of charactor since on the bike
I ride utterly fearless, but in other things than that I'm a horrible ditherer.

I've got a work conundrum (again sigh) Confused

I work for big company H , they;ve been pissing me off lately as per my many other posts, but I did finally get my
bonus in lieu of holiday denials. They want to transfer me out of compliance (tax) and into accounts and audit
which is where I am slightly weak ,I'm weak because I've never been trained properly (having bosses that say
you'll figure it out) and that my experience in this area is not that recent last set of proper accounts I did was
early 2006 , its now mid 2007. Confused

No extra pay , its very safe though since mistakes you make here are not as important as those made in other
companies. However their motives I'm not sure about since they have been losing a horrendous number of staff,
with their don't like it leave attitude and many many people have decided to leave and I think they just need bums
on seats to do the work, as long as its somebody to do it is what I think at the moment. Its also city centre based
so I get to have some fun filtering in and out and quite often meet people for lunch.

Smaller company TJ made me an offer , 2 jobs actually 2 days tax 3 days accounts and audit, (there is not enough
work on both sides to do full time on either side), it pays 1/6th more + 5 days holiday, they realise my weaknesses
and say they will train me up and fill up my experience log (accountants need to collect evidence of their experience
before they can properly qualify). It is a 2.7 mile commute door to door and with only a 5 mile commiute door to door
my NTV will last forever (my current commute can vary between 20-65 miles.

Bad points , its 100% unknown terrirtory ,ie I might bugger it up I am still wary of my first ever accountancy job which
I messed up badly since they expected too much from me, it is also still 2/5 tax which I've wanted to move away from
for quite some time. It is also in the middle of nowhere so pub lunches and taking the girlies out is out of the question,
yes surprise Itchy is sort of semi seeing somebody at a solicitors nearby.

My agent defo wants me to move ,he uses the weasley words I recognise immediately from deadly manipulative women
but I know for a fact that he is eyeing up his fee I know this and he bothers me every few hours to take this job , I now have
until 11AM tommorow to decide which one to take.

your thougths highly appreciated and karma cookies for useful advice.

Thank you.

I (in all my experiance of 2 jobs at age 16, but you wanted opinions so meh) would go for job 2. Any extra training you receive will surely help, even if you hate it, stick out the training then ditch it once contracts finished. And while you did that you got more money, chance to meet new people, and expand your experiance in work, and it will stop it becoming so samey so soon if you change companies.

but having two roles may be stressful, but if you get bored a lot, or need work to concentrate, then thats a good thing because of the focus it will need.
I dont know you, but thats my take on your situation

Sounds like the 2nd one is better? I get the feeling the only thing that is putting you off the second one is the fact that your agent is keen for you to take it so he can get his fee. But you obviously don't like where you are now - you've posted that a few times Wink - so maybe it's time to move? I doubt you'll mess it up as you are worried about doing, it will be the same sort of work you are doing just now plus they will train you up which will only help any future career moves.

Re. the agent, I have no idea how these things work, but I presume you couldn't just go to the company and say you want to work for them but not through the agency? Probably not possible, I've never done agency work so have no clue how it's set up!

With out wanting to patronise,
sales men often talk about the theory of "reducing to the ridiculous"

You are letting your lack of experience in one area of the job put you off what seems like a damn fine opportunity

To reduce it to the ridiculous, at the end of the day it all boils down to simple addition/subtraction only the spreadsheets will look different.

TAKE JOB 2!!!

There, that decisive enough for you?

'Course the agency want their comission, that's what they do. Doesn't mean the job isn't the best option for you.

Here's why I would take it if I were in your shoes:

1 - You hate your current job.
2 - It's more money and more holidays to spend it in.
3 - It's more varied so you won't get bored as easily/quickly.
4 - You still get your sideways move into Audit whilst maintaining your backstop tax experience.
5 - It's a much smaller commute which has 2 advantages, one less wear & tear and cost on the bike, and two more time of your own for pleasure rides, maintenance or taking the g/f out!
6 - If the girl is interested she'll stay in touch.
7 - Loads of pubs do lunches you don't have to be in the city centre.
8 - You will be a step closer to fully qualified.

Here's why I would stay in the current job:

1 - Errmmm.......well.....errrrmm.......I can't actually think of even one good reason. Or even a poor reason actually.

Get on the phone, take the job, get the agency their dosh, pull your finger out before they offer it to someone else.

Thumbs Up

Accepted, I feel slightly bad in that they'd actually taken note of my concerns and wishes , they'd actually
made moves to satisfy them, in that I've semi thrown in back at their faces, but it was far too late I suppose
I'd made noises about transfer 3 months ago, too little too late....I'm just wondering how to word my notice
letter presently, since I'm being transfered tommorow.

But I thought lets have a go elsewhere , since I was going to be crammed down to probationary period anyway
hell why not go elsewhere to sit out a probationary period instead?. In that I was going to have to leave in 9 months
anyway due to office relocation, they are being a bit silly moving south when ALL the important staff come from the
North of Manchester.

Especially since THE most important person in the company is showing his cards tommorow, if he leaves everybody
thinks the company will collaspe.

Thanks.

Personally, I would(and do) find 2 differing jobs a refreshing challenge, and Itchy, you keep 'going on'(for want of a better phrase Wink Mr. Green ) about your current one, so if YOU want to(in your heart an all that), go for it. You probably won't look back, and anywhere/thing is better than where you currently are by the sounds of it. Cool

Have you thought your employers might want you to take the job in Accounts hoping you wont like it and leave...

I'd take the first job, OK it's 2 days Tax and 3 days Accounts and Audit, but it all adds to the experience and training and having two jobs you're less likely to get stale and bored...

I'd go for the new one myself...HTH

P.S, I haven't read the whole thread so if I've said what's been said before...Meh...

Erm yeah guys I've already accepted the job offer already as per my post earlier, formal written notice came today I've accepted it
and I'm handing in my notice on Monday,3 others have also decided to hand in their notice also, thus staying in my current position
is not really feasible,

Company is seriously short on staff, you go to the accounts dept 25 desks, theres only 7 people filling them, company NEEDS 102
staff , currently has 58 of which 3 are off on stress.

But this isn't really too much of my own concern anyway , behave for 30 more days to fill out my notice period , get my reference,
and go somewhere else, as a side effect the BCF may get a bit queiter , lest somebody else has such a work issue, the general
bike section go queiter after I found my CBR , with Tobes + BWFC asking what bike!.
