Well there a general feeling of unease (aka i think my bikes FUBAR'ed) in my bike, and the one quantitive symptom is my idle.

Everytime i start up my bike its too low, like 1k. So i dutifully notch up the idle adjuster and bugger off, by the time i get to where i want to go, its up to 2.5-3k.

And the annoying thing is it bounces up and down, so for instance when its at 'just' 1k, its really hovering there with trips both to .5 and 1.5 ish.

Its clipping 43k now, and ive had it 8k without doing any proper servicing. What do you think it needs? What do you think is causing the idle problem.

try adjusting the throttle cable a bit. there should be a bit of slack in it so you can turn it without it doing anything.
or the idle jets, or a combination of both?
un-balanced carbs?
shit in the carbs/fuel filter?
could be loads of things. most likely to do with the carb end of the bike.
(by the way, FUBAR means 'fucked up beyond all recognition' so FUBAR'ed makes no sense Razz)
yep, ive watched saving private ryan.

It needs a damn good service. It also needs the carbs balanced (provided it's not fuel injection - soz, dunno what bike it is). Bite the bullet, get it done. You WILL see a difference!

Balance the carbs and maybe get some quotes on the valve clearances being done as if they havnt been done before they might be getting ready for checking. Sounds like as the bike warms up the various bits are warming up and expanding making the clearances nearer what they should be. Also look into doing a copression test, do it dry and then put some oil into the bores and look for a change.

I know its not the same bike but i recently had the valve clearances done on the zx6r and it gained 5bhp on the dyno, I was told the clearances were fine appart from two valves which were only very slightly out but adjusted none the less. It made 96bhp and was stupidly lean when I had it dynoed again a few months after the clearances were done it was upto 103bhp and was about right on the fueling.
