Explain the different bike licenses please.

I passed my bike test 37 years ago and there weren't all these different catagories then. So, just out of curiosity can someone explain them all to me? When I was learning on my solo, a 250 Matchless G2CSR (restrictions then for learners was 250cc) and the biggest bike on the road to learn on at the time.

CBT = 125, < 14.6bhp, no pillions or motorway, L plates a necessity.
A1 = Same as CBT except you are allowed pillions and motorway travel and you can get rid of the plates.
A2 = Restricted to 33bhp for 2 years, then onto a big bike.
DAS = Straight onto a big bike provided you are over 21.

If you get your A2, but turn 21 before you have held it for 2 years, you can do an "Accelerated Access" course.

Class B1 - Bikes and Trikes

Now only comes with a Class B (Car) licence. Bastards.
