hi quick question about corrosion

my bike will be kept in my back yard throughout the whole year, im getting a cover but not a complete one that covers the full bike eg the bottom, im just getting one that goes over the top. i will maintain the bike in top condition but would it still rust with just a throw over one.

also what can i use to stop the metal parts of the bike corroding eg exhast, at the minute im using wd40 but it has water in. someone once said silicone? where can i get this from and whats it like?

Buy a full length breathable cover (£30 ish). Your bike will still rust, but not actually fast enough for you to watch, so if you keep it clean and polished it should be ok.

The cover you are on about sounds like a waste of time.

FS365 is pretty good. Smokes like a good 'un if you get it over the hot bits of the engine. Rode to work the other week after treating the bike with it. Got off in the parking bays with smoke billowing off the hot downpipes to the freaked looks from the crowd. set the alarm and left it there merrily smoking (would burn off in a min or two)..

If you do use WD or similar, remember to smear grease around your fork seals as the WD will seep in and damage the rubber otherwise.

The £200 you spend on a shed will be less in the long run than you will lose on depreciation by leaving a bike outdoors over winter. Remember, its not just rust to worry about, any part that moves can sieze...

You can get fold over bike covers that will protect the entire bike. They're a bit like a tent.
They're not cheap tho.
