Hi there, Myself and a few mates are planning to travel via the EuroTunnel on the 25th of July, Returning on the 29th of July.

According to the EuroTunnel website it will be £74 each way for the 5 Day FlexiPlus.

I have a few questions that someone may be able to answer:

1) If I just pay when I turn up, Does it cost much extra than the Online price (This would suit in the event of my ferry to England getting delayed)

2) As you probably know, Kawasaki Stands are VERY upright, I already know I have to stay with my bike on the Tunnel, But on my ferry from Northern Ireland to Liverpool, Is it possible to stay with the bike, Or is there any 'Tie downs' available on the ferry?

3) Does the Euro Tunnel price include the pillion I will be taking?

4) I will be travelling from Liverpool (Birkenhead) to Folkestone, What tolls, If any am I likely to encounter? (I'm not even sure if there are any tolls in England)

5) When I arrive in France, Are the tolls expensive to cross into the Likes of Belgium, Luxemburg, The Netherlands and Germany.

6) This may be a stupid question, But better safe than sorry: Is there plenty of petrol stations about, And out of intrest, can anyone remember what price Unleaded is and what is it called at the petrol station (Incase its in Yerman or something)

7) I can borrow a TomTom Rider from a mate, Is it worth taking to the countrys I have in mind?

Thats about it I think, Any other advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first trip abroad on the bike

Thumbs UpSmile

From what I've heard, there are tie downs on the ferry - read another thread somewhere - the straps are provided though you may be best taking some rags, or putting a T-Shirt under them to stop and rubbing.

As for the petrol prices, this should help you out: https://www.aaroadwatch.ie/eupetrolprices/

Sorry - can't help you with any of the others, I'm not exactly experienced maself!

Not sure, I've always booked, but, if you're going over on the chunnel, why not come back on it too. If you're getting a Flexi-plus ticket, that means you can get on whatever crossing you want. That's why it's flexi-plus. Whenever I've come back and been early or late, I've been able to get onto the next train anyway. As a bike there's no real queing (as I was told b the girl in the booth at the Calais side, as bikes go on last anyway in the gap at the end of the train).

Never been on a ferry with a bike, so can't answer, sorry.

Never taken a pillion, but as the car ticket is for the vehicle, it should be the same for a bike with a pillion.

Unless you intend to use the M6 toll road, you won't have any. If you come around the top of the M25 to get to Folkstone, you'll have the Dartford crossing, but it's free for a bike, just go to one of the booths with a person in it, they open it for you, no charge! Wink

There's no toll charge on the northern route into Belgium from France. I've driven from Calais to the middle of Germany and not hit a single toll and that was all motorway.

There's loads and in Europe the main ones at the side of motorways are 24 hours too. It's cheaper than UK, can't recall how much though. It's got a bit more expensive over the last couple of years, but definately cheaper.

Depends if it has all of the European mapping in detail on it. It may have to be updated for individual countries or for more detailed mapping (My Garmin one does, so I have to plot where I'm going and add the details I want accordingly) Buy a european tuff map (made for bikers, small and tear proof) incase it isn't, you won't go far wrong.

Just enjoy it. Try to steer clear of the motorways (unless you have to rack up serious milage to get somewhere) the roads are incredibly quiet compared to the UK (especially France) so enjoy the scenery and the different lifestyles. And hope for good weather! Laughing

It's worth your while getting that ticket; as already mentioned, it's a flexiticket so you can change it free of charge. I had just a normal ticket, was 1.5h late in departure and 1.5 days late in arrival, and they just threw me in the next train anyway. Bikes are directed to the side of the platform and if there's space in a carriage after cars, they'll fill it with bikes. Thumbs Up

FYI, on the train, you park sideways, both wheels next to the kerb. Most bikers seems to stand or sit behind their bikes, and car drivers were happy to do the same if you needed to nip into the loo. Apparently, some ferries have straps, some don't, so best check.

Yes, the price is for the bike and any passengers and luggage.

Loads of motorways have tolls, but some have toll free sections. In any case, it's just a few euros here and there, nothing to worry about. Make sure you go to a manned booth, though (most of them are), so you pay the motorbike fare (about 1/3 of what cars pay). In France, I think they had a bike option in the mechanised ones, but in Italy for instance, they didn't, so you had to reverse and go to a manned toll or pay up. When you start, you press a button to get a ticket; keep this safe and handy and hand it to the toll keeper on exit (look for the "peage" signs) and they'll calculate the amount.

Loads, and on the mways the next one is indicated so you know if you should turn in or not. Petrol is cheaper than in the UK (well, what isn't). Leadfree is 'sans plomb' in French (from the Latin 'plumbum'), 'senza piombo' in Italian and 'bleifrei' in German, but they tend to use the uniformal green nozzles anyway. The thing to remember in rural areas is that often the small petrol stations are unmanned on Sundays and late at night, so you need to use cash (minimum 10 euros) or the petrol station's own card; very rarely do they take a credit card.

I had mine last year when I went through France to Italy and it was fantastic! I've got a plastic tank and short arms so couldn't have a tank bag, and with the sat nav, I didn't have to worry about anything. If I took a wrong turning, sometimes even intentionally, it always plotted a new route to the destination. The new one comes with Euromap as a standard, for the old one you'd have to buy one unless your friend already has it.
