As i'm off to uni i've been looking for ways to cut costs, and my first idea was to allow an insurance company to put some decals on my bike providing they pay my premium.

However, in response they have said if i get 6 people to get a policy through them and quote my name they'll refund my premium (and they're sending me some stickers).

The company is called Devitt and they quoted me £289 on a 1999 Hornet at the age of 18 which is bloody good.

Let me know what you guys think!

That was the initial idea anyway.

Having started up a business in the past i realised how costly marketing and advertising can be, the idea is simple yet effective.

If i didn't go for an insurance company i'm going to ask some companies who target university students as that's where the bike'll be most of the time!

As i said, he didn't like the initial concept of spraying my panels to whatever they wanted but they did say if i get 6 people to get a policy through them and say my name...they'll refund all of my insurance premium!

Hhmmm.... Thinking I understand what you are saying but what do the six people get out of it? (i'm being selfish i know)

Do they get a slightly cheaper premium or is it purely you that will benefit from this?

*curious* Thumbs Up

I would have, but I find them a bit steep, their £696 quote I find is a tad higher than £356 from motorcycle direct, which also may go down on phone... Very Happy

its worth ringing round companies and asking the same though!

did they say they would need proof of putting them on? you could always get the stickers and not bother in the end!

I'll happily give the people who sign up a few quid or something like that once i've got all 6!

Devitts are the only company that have got back ot me so far (sent e-mails last night) and i've e-mailed loads of companies so hopefully some other company might offer me something better!

so what they are getting is this..

advertising on your bike and 7 insurance policies.. obviously they are going to claw back your premium somehow and it seems to me that they may just put another £40 on the 6 people who think they may be helping you.

If you find 6 people why don't all 7 of you try for the same deal citing the other 6 as new customers Very Happy

Shocked you make me wonder sometimes Sad Laughing

I can see why you've done it, but wouldn't do the same as if you have a claim or something, your not going to want their logo all over your bike and mine was renewed a while back..

Well to be honest, i saw one of those Red Bull Cars parked on someone's drive and i wondered how much they get paid to do it?

The amount of money companies plug into advertising/marketing, i figured there's always a chance i can have some of it Very Happy

Hey its always worth a try.

To be honest i don't think i'm going to go for the 6 referrals thing as your right i'm the only one benefiting.

I'm going to stick to the original idea of plastering someones name all over my bike and seeing if they'll pay my insurance to do it!
