Hide Numberplate Plate with Feet :very illegal:

I was talking with a mate about bikes, at on point, he said, “do you know about, whilst riding leaning forward and bring your legs back and cover your number plate, so things like speed cameras, police cannot see it, hence getaway".

My initial response was, hmmm very interesting,

Then I drifted off and had a day dream: fast, manoeuvres loud screeches, engine roars, police sirens, whilst being chased by the police and getting away.

Then I realised I am a Bike Noob and came back to reality.

So I ask you guys, anyone tried this? Would you try it? Any pictures of someone doing in real life?

I am attaching a picture of, what it may look like: the red lines indicate feet.

I used to do it on my 125 when I was 17, and it appeared to work everytime (at least none of the cozzers/public who were trying to get my number ever came to my door).

Not sure how well it would work on my Blade vs a scamera though.

A couple of years ago MCN published a load of photos from speed cameras where the riders had 'got away'

There was a guy covering the plate with his feet, a pillion reaching down and covering the plate, someone pulling a wheelie, allsorts

I guess it's possible, depending on what bike, and length of riders legs...

but I get the mental image of burning your knees/shins on the exhaust can and/or getting feet caught between the number plate and the rear wheel


(although I seem to remember some years ago, an ex neighbour of mine trying to use a CD to obscure part of his plate, and in theory to cause a glare on any prospective camera shots of his plate?)

Suspect you'd be better off without a plate, then at least you can plead ignorance. If they do catch up with you, I suspect you'd get bummed for all sorts. Perverting the course of justice, maybe evading arrest or something.

Just put some black tape on the plate and change a number or letter, or cover one up completely, if the police stop you what can they do?


If you don't have a roll of black on your person, then how can prove it was you and not some twat pissing about with your bike when it was parked up.

I once saw one of these Police Camera Action type programmes and someone had used the black tape to make a new reg number.

Funny thing was though, that he had made his 02 plate (or something) into an 82 and the cop cottoned on because it was physically not possible to have been registered with that plate.
I think he got screwed over too?

Hypothetically, you could use black & yellow lecky tape, and play accordingly.... I've wondered about a show plate on hinges and pull-up string..... or do what another member on here did, and attach the mechanism from a cordless screwdriver onto your plate so at the twitch of a switch, it rotates but I'm not responsible for your actions oh, and upon testing, It didn't happen without piccies/vids.

I just leave my plate muddy.... sorry offisah... Just been up on the moors (technically illegal as your plate must be clearly visible.. Hell I got a 30 quid ticket for obsqured plate when it was pointing a little skywards )

Well I had an unintentional one with a pillion once, he had a over the shoulder bag that meant that it hung over the plate and the rear lights..

He noticed not long after we set off and moved his bag, but still it would work.
