Im really hoping that there would be someone here that could answer a mechanical question related to my CG125.
Im soon to be taking my test and will be selling the CG if all goes to plan. Its in perfect condition apart from the following which I would like to try and fix before I sell it.
Ocassionally when the old girl has been stationary for a while, and when its either been a little cold or damp outside, when I go to put her into 1st I get a major kick back from the clutch plates and the engine cuts out. I know you can get round this by engaging first gear and rocking it forward before starting her up, but Its something that I shouldn't have to do and would really like to fix it.
Im not very mechanically minded but am hoping that one of you guys has a suggestion that I can have a go at, that will either solve or help this problem.
Thanks very much guys

I am not a mechanic, but idle speed could be a factor.
If the idle speed is to low, it could stall when you engage a gear.
If the idle speed is to high it could overheat the clutch plates?
I have the 2005 model (same as yours if you have a front disc brake).
The bike was fully warmed up and the idle set by turning it down until it just started to thump on one of the stokes, it was then turned up until it stopped thumping and then a fraction more.
I also bet the air mixture screw has something to do with the cold and damp times. Your mixture is probably still set to manufacturers default = far to lean in order to pass emissions tests. The mixture screw is under the carb and should be adjusted until you get the fastest idle (then reset the idle speed and then recheck the mixture again). If you do not want to adjust this, a bodge is just to try turning up the idle speed. The mixture should be set when the bikes fully warmed up. Manufacturers default is 1.75 turns open, I ended up 3.25 turns open and the screw has never fallen out when riding.
If non of that works and neither does the oil change, looks like you have a fault or worn out clutch? You could also try blipping the throttle when changing in to gear? |
