... to take my bike test? the 33bhp one? I've been riding for a year now and I'm 17, my Aprilia RS125 is fully derestricted, and I'd prefer to be legal plus do the test as early as possible so that the restriction session is finished. However I've heard that a bike lesson and a test can be very expensive, how much do I therefore need roughly? thanks for any help! Very Happy

Techincally riding an RS125 with a 33bhp license isn't legal due to the torque. Lessons on your own bike + tests you can do for about £200 if you have 2 day lessons in a week and book tests yourself.

My 3 days course with test including bike, instructor, everything costs £375. 3 full days training from 9-5 and then training on the third day till my test.

My 3 day DAS course was 399 including test and bike rental.

Was around £40 i think for theory. Worth doing an intensive course as you get alot of practise in.

if you do your test for the restricted licence on your own bike think the examiner sometimes asks for evidence that your bike is restricted.

I was under the impression it wasn't legal not because of the torque but because of the weight to power ratio. Thats if an RS125 really put out 33bhp.

RIding the RS unrestricted without 33bhp licence is illegal. Limited to something silly like 11 or 12bhp with the cbt.

Be careful, if the instructor thinks your bike is unrestricted he could fail you unless you prove otherwise as technically you have no licence to ride it or insurance.

Teach yourself, get a friend who is more experienced to tell you what your doing wrong, scrutinise yourself everyday when you get home about what you didnt do quite right and should practice on. Try to spend as much time as possible on the roads.

For me it all cost £80, just did the theory, taught myself and did the full test.

33HP or 25KW is the limit, torque is not the limiting factor.

Or power to weight ratio. . . . "power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg" which I guess in theory why it would be illegal to ride a full power RS125, if it did actually put out 33bhp, which is pretty unlikely, and if anyone actually cared enough to weigh it.

I think this is what fallenangel actually meant, could be wrong though!
