Here's the deal. I'm in a bit of a shitter as it were.

I'm 18. Been driving for 1 year 8 months, and been riding for 1 year 2 months. I've got a 33bhp restricted license.

Got 3 points a bit ago for speeding in a 30, and just got another.

Meaning I've got 6 within the first 2 years of driving, meaning I'm going to be put back onto a provisional. Has this happened to anyone, do you know much about it.

I know the DVLA will contact me via post, and I know I've got to go to court, which will take around a month apparently.

Can I take my tests straight away? Are they the same tests as other people? Do I need to inform my insurance straight away? Is it going to be nearly impossible for me to get insured?

I can't deny the charges, I was speeding, so trying to get myself out of it isn't going to help.

If anyone could give any advice or info I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Nick.

My friend had this, He had the re-apply for his provisional and as soon as he got it could resit his CBT then his Full Licence. I don't believe he had to go to court. He was back on the road in a couple of months.

Hi

As above, but you only need to take one of the tests again to gain both licence entitlements back.

All the best

I believe as its in your first to years you will have to take an extended test (around 45 mins i think) but other than that unless they actually say your banned you can take tests asap.

How sure are you about this? I haven't read anything about an extended test. I do however, have to take my theory and practicals. I think I need to take both.

Are you sure about this? I have been reading https://www.drivingban.co.uk/drivingban/drivingbannewdrivers.htm which is quite specific, if all accurate and true.

As far as I'm aware, due to the points going on your license (not car or bike one specifically) then you get both revoked, and have to pass both car and bike tests again. Which is a bit of a ball-ache.

Chris-red thanks for your replies, cheers for the info about restriction. That's helpful I guess. I can't believe I've got to re-do a CBT as-well as the test. That's just gonna be expensive! Argh!

I guess this will teach me not to speed. Not that I can do much about it now.

Thanks for your replies so far and if you know any more information, or if your mate knows anything more, please get in touch.

Nick.

If you get 6 points in 2 years it's an extended re-test. 100% sure.

They way I read this site is that the 6 points thing is classes as an obligatory disqualification and you go back to learner status. Although I'm sure I could be wrong that's what I always though.

The extended test is 1 hour 10 mins and is for those that have been banned from driving. You have had your licence revoked and so will sit the normal 37 min test. You will have to do your theory test again too. You will only need to complete one of the tests to get both parts back. Most people, that I know, opt for the car test. Just get some proper tuition just to get rid of those bad habits you have got yourself, ( it is amazing how many you can pick up in such a short time ) Then once you have passed look out for those speed cameras.

Woo just phoned the DVLA woman. She was nice Smile Explained everything. Just for future reference I might as well you the answers to my questions!

If you get 6 or more points within the first 2 years of driving or riding you get your license revoked. No banned or disqualified. Revoked. Meaning they take your full license off you, and you can then apply for a provisional.

Once you surrender your license within 7 days of the offense to a police station, you will recieve a letter from the DVLA explaining your revoke. 5 days after the date that is printed on this letter, is when you are changed from full license to provisional. Meaning I've got 2-3 weeks of driving still hopefully.

As from then, I get forms to apply for a provisional. Once that comes, I can take either bike or car test, and when passing you still have 6 points, and can get up to 12 before you are banned / whatever from then on.

Normal price tests and normal timed ones too. Nothing extra.

Wooo!

I was followed by a police car for over 2 miles with its lights on, trying to get me to pull over but I was going too fast to realise he was behind me.

should have noticed and done one to be honest as I've got a tiny plate on too, no chance he'd of got my registration. Grr!
