I’m rather partial to the Honda CB250 and will be on the lookout for one once I’ve passed my test. Not at all like the CBR though. If you were after something with a bit more of a race rep look to it I’m not much of an authority. Then again, touring around Europe on a race rep is going to get uncomfortable pretty fast I would have thought…?

I was thinking about the Hyosung Comet GT250.. before I went for an ER6 (0% finance is very tempting Wink). It'a got 28hp, 4 stroke v-twin and should be good enough for 100mph+.. and it's cheap. Not many around second hand though.

I have ridden the Honda CB250 (model from 1994 onwards).
The CBF250 is the latest version and it’s totally different (frame and engine).

The CB250 is gutless above 50mph. The lack of fairing makes it even worse.

It also suffers from vibration problems at high speeds (like 65 mph for 45 miles = bladder vibrated forcing you to stop).

Handling is crap.

Brakes work just about.

The CBR125 would run rings around it.
The power output is lower on the CBR125, but it has a fairing that makes a massive difference above 50 mph, reducing the wind resistance a lot.

The power outputs of the bikes are around 13hp for the CBR and 20hp for the CB250.

I would not put money on which bike is faster in the real world, the CBR125 could be faster due to fairing. The CBR125 would thrash the CB250 going round bends and braking.

If I was recommending a bike, it would be the Honda CB500 (do not no what its like in restricted form though).

bangbros*69,

I looked at getting a 250cc 4-stroke bike (see my thread in the general chat forum), but after listening to advice decided that it's not worth it so am now going to get a 400 after I've done my test.

I was told (and looking at the figures agree) that a 250cc bike isn't going to be much quicker than a 125. It also seems that you can get a 400cc machine for more or less the same money as something like a CB250 and the insurance is barely more.

Hope this helps.

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, i used to have a rare example of a ZXR250. It was very nice, very petite, very chuckable and it just loved the bends. Only downside was parts, the reliance of using 14000rpm to do 85mph on the motorway was a bit taxing. But having an 18000rpm redline was something to boast about and the fact that it handled on rails was more than enough for me to persevere with it for a good 2 years. 40bhp and good for 110mph. It had quite an acceptable sized boot for a chain and lock. I'd love to get another one at some point because i miss it so much. You can try the CBR250RR but the parts issue will still be there.

Ride! It's Ride!

Here in the UK you need to be 17 with at least a class A2 (restricted) licence.

A motorcycle was referred to as an iron horse.

A car was a horseless carriage.

Have you ever heard of driving a horse?

So you always ride a horse, so you ride a motorcycle.
