can someone please explain the pros and cons between having a plug put in your tyre and having it vulcanized for me! it would be greatly appreciated, it's just that i'm a little confused on what one person says is good and what's bad.

Many people both here and in the trade willtell you that it is ilegal and unsafe to plug a tubeless tyre.
Crap on both counts!!!
The BSI recommend replacement on Z rated tyres, (although the chairman of the tyre committee actually owns a company that makes internal plugs for tyres), whilst anything below Z rated is fine to be plugged.
BSI does not and cannot make law, it recommends, but some tyre companies are quite happy for their Z rated tyres to be plugged.
I currently have 2 plugs in the rear azaro fitted on the Blackbird, and one in the rear of the 020 on the Pan,not a problem, and so far I have covered about 4000 miles on the Bird with the plug, and about 6000 on the pan with the plug, which includes a few laps of the Nurburgring, and more than a few laps of the Spa circuit.
Where the problem lies is two fold, firstly with the temporary external repair kits which are a get you home only repair. These kits often cause delamination as the plies are seperated as the plug goes in causing the tyre to chunk and then let go.
With the internal plug, it has to be done with a proper mushroom (tyre mushroom that is) not a patch.
With the tyre mushroom it fills the void caused by the obstacle, and prevents the steel belts rusting, but bear in mind on the plus side you do not get instant deflation with a tubeless tyre as you do with a tubed tyre.
If it is done properly, it is fine, safe and legal! ____________________ It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world, than 30 years early in the next |

thanks a lot! very helpful!
it's just that i got a mushroom plug for £8 from universal tyres when i asked for it to be vulcanized, and was a little concerned when i saw a little round piece of rubber now filling the hole.
i can breathe a sigh of relief now! ____________________ Now own a Fireblade!! Speed Limits? Bah! |
