Bollocks!

I recently bought this Sigma 70-300mm lens on e-bay.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230143645512&rd=1&rd=1

It came through today and when I connected it to the camera I got "Err 99" and couldn't do anything else. Searched a load of forums and fucked about cleaning the lens to no avail.

I contacted the seller and he told me thats why he sold it as it wasn't compatible with digital SLR's. It wasn't until I read this message I read through the listing slowly and noticed it.

I don't want a lecture.

What do I do about this? I have contacted the seller asking if I could get a refund and he could relist as he has a much higher feedback score. I doubt he will allow it though.

Any advice? Evil or Very Mad

Pay for the lens, leave positive feedback and relist on Ebay.

Lesson learnt with hopefully not too much of a loss.

That's the thing though, I only have 1 feedback. I tried to sell my X-Box a couple of months back and didn't get a sniff at a bad price as well.

Although, he does mention that it doesn't hit his new DSLR, he doesn't mention which one. Do I have an arguement?

Not really - he doesn't say it will fit yours and says it doesn't fit his new one. Have you already paid?

If you want to be a total nob you could just not pay for it. It's not like you have a high feedback score. But don't do this, pay for it and relist it.

Well if you've already paid for it then you don't really have much of an option. Is there a friend who could list it for you?

Or sell in local paper etc where feedback isn't an issue.

Stick it on ebay, if it sells then great, if not then you'll have to wait until your feedback improves. Are you on any photography forums?

List it on here in the 'Everything Else' section as well.

Why not try and PX it for something that will work at one of the camera shops. Worth a shot.

As to selling on ebay, its all about getting the wording right, lets face it other placed bids on it. And everyone has to start somewhere.

Hi

Not an unknown problem with older Sigma lenses.

You could try contacting Sigma and see if they can rechip it to work on your dSLR.

All the best

Thanks for the advice folks.

Just gave Sigma a call and the lens cannot be rechipped due to its age. Can't get the parts for it anywhere in the world.

Evil or Very Mad Thumbs Down

I think I know what you have done. Does the lens have an aperture ring? If so its not locked on as high as it will go. Before mounting it onto the camera you need to whack it up to f32 on the ring (will probably be in red on the sigma) and then lock it into place.
