heya guys
started having a problem with the front brakes recently, well actually the whole front wheel...when i push or ride the bike along it sort of makes a brushing/grinding noise...more so when im going like 5-10mph and brake i can feel feedback in the handles ...its kinda hard to explain what the feedback feels like...almost like a clicking feeling this dont happen when im going at speed....or maybe i just cant feel it as everything is vibrating.?
anyways today it sort of got real bad... it made massive grinding noises when i pushed the bike along and almost like metal grinding together when i pressed on the brake... so i thought the brake was worn...i leave the bike for a bit and just now at night i decide to ride the bike again now the noise seems to of calmed down ....no grinding metal and also the when i press on the brake its ok... its noisy...but no where as near bad metal grinding as it was earlier.... one thing tho if it were the brake pad which was completely worn then the bike wouldnt stop me would it?
at the mo i go at a bit of a pace press on the brake lever and it does stop me (pretty much like normal)
and i cant figure out for the life of me what this grinding noise is from, before was....or what the tiny brushing noise now is... all i know is its comming from the front wheel somewhere
cheers in advance for any help |

worn pads will still stop you, but they will grind your discs down a LOT and will make a lot of scraping noise, so thats a possiblity that it is your pads?
if not, then check the caliper isnt catching the disc in any way (the disc could be warped?)
thats about all i can think of sorry
oh p.s. could it not be shagged wheel bearings making lots of noise?? not really sure on that one to be honest, but you'd prob notice a handling problem anyway ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Does the Grinding noise happen continuously when you push the bike or does it pulse in time with the wheel spinning?
If the noise changes as the front wheel turns then its probably a warped disc... not too much to worry about as long as it doesn't get too bad.
If the noise is a continuous grinding noise then I suggest you follow the Brakes faq https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=19435
You can inspect the pads to see if they are worn, if they are then change 'em. It explains in the faq how to tell if they are beyond their wear limit.
If not the pads then it might just be the caliper has seized; strip and clean it/them and you'll notice a big difference. Don't worry its not too difficult. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Hi
As he says it could be wheel bearings.
Worn out brake pads will make the noise you describe, and will still stop you fairly normally until they are right down to the metal. Once they are down to the metal you stand a chance that the brake pad backing material will weld itself to the disk and stop the front wheel very suddenly and very permanently
All the best

New disc=not cheap. about £60 ish (estimate)
If it was bad before and not now then I reckon its a seized caliper or severely worn pads - possibly both (Not warped disc).
Follow the faq its really cheap and you'll learn about brakes (I hope )
I doubt that it is wheel bearings, cos they take time to get into such a state where they make noise. You'd notice the front wheel feeling funny. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
