Yesterday I borrowed my friend's Piaggio Zip - now I have no problem riding my own CG125 but for some reason I just couldn't ride this at all! Felt shaky going around corners, unable to straighten it up properly afterwards, just felt hard to balance - possibly due to the fact that you sit ON it, not astride it... Does anyone else who rides 'proper' bikes have the same problem with scoots, or is there something wrong with me? I found it a very strange experience.

The short stubby wheels wont help with the handling.

Yeah, could be that too. Didn't feel comfortable with it at all, felt like I was going to fall off going round corners slowly!

I'll stick to proper bikes from now on!

Maybe that's why Chavs adopt the MX style foot out technique around Macky D's..

They say "ride one, you can ride them all", this, I've found, is not true.

I can't ride a ped easily, I go for the gear lever when it hits it's top speed, and they just don't lean well on corners, but they do skid nicely around car parks, and 360/'donut' well in snow Whistle

Also, going from a crosser, straight onto a sports is not recommended in too short a time... On the crosser, it feels 'high & mighty', no car will stop me Twisted Evil , get on a sports, and it's more agile on the road, and you are whizzing about avoiding cars that don't see you. The noise difference is notice-able too Thumbs Up

Ped: Whhhiiinngggggg *pop* wwwhhhiiiinnnngggggg.
sports: vvuuuuurrrrrr *tick* V-vuuuuuurrrrrr
crosser:Naaaarrrrrr *ging* Naaaaarrrrrrr(dodgy clutch) Laughing

That's my 2P anyhew. Laughing Thumbs Up

i found after a while on a big bike going back to riding my scooter felt really weird, as if i was going to fall off round corners. Thought the lack of power might be it.

My Vespa feels very frisky when cornering.
Its because of the small skinny wheels and the fact that the engine is mounted so far back compared to a bike.
The front goes very light and is easily upset by the slightest bump in the road.
It makes the FZR seem all smooth and planted to the road and its hardly the most heavyweight bike ever built.

also maybe your used to having a bit of power coming out of corners that makes the bike feel stable, where as on a scooter you dont have that luxury of power and it feels a little bit shaky.

I have recently purchased a scooter for commuting having only used geared 125s in the past. I find it quite odd cornering too. I think it’s the lack of control you have with the twist-and-go. On my 125 I could drop down a gear to keep the revs up when cornering slowly, but the twist-and-go won’t let you do that. Sometimes it feels a bit like coasting with the clutch in.

As soon as I get enough money I'm taking my DAS and swapping it for a proper bike.

the only time ov riden a scooter was on my cbt, it was fine for the first 25 mins, as it was the first bike i had ever riden, but then i got on a 125 it was a lot easier to ride even with the gears, could never go back to scooters now

Yes, that's it! Felt stable enough cornering under power, but trying to ride it slowly was nearly impossible.

Odd though as I did my CBT on a Gillera of some sort, that wasn't nearly as bad. And Zip's are meant to handle well!

"ride one, you can ride them all" is true in a way, but isnt it the same with everything?

may be able to ride it, but after riding a 600 for years and having "a go" on 125's and 50's wether it was one i was doing up or mates bikes, i really was terrible on corners, i just wanted off.

remember jumping on a 50 after a year or so on a 600, thought i could wheelie it, and damn near flipped the fucker Shocked

more likley to hurt myself on a 50 than a 400+

I quite like cornering on mine, in fact, I prefer it to the Monster. Much more adventureous, you never know if you're going to lose the rear or not, and get a sense of euphoria when you keep the bike upright. Just don't get that on a big bike.

If you haven't seen taxi yet, you should watch it, it's mad, the stunts are great and it's a funny film.
Imho the best film to come out of france, taxi 2 and 3 are good too.
