Ive heard you can take a DAS test when youre 17?

Can you explain that please?

21 years and over I am afraid, you can do the A1 or A2. Read the Duffers guide to getting a license at the top of this forum.

As the man above said you can't take the DAS.

You can take the restricted test at 17, you'll then be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years after which you will automatically be upgraded to an unrestricted licence with no further testing required.

As said, DAS is exclusively 21 yr of age or over.

Confused not exactly.

At 17, you can take 2 optional tests.

A1: this is a test for riding a 125cc @ 17 years of age, restricted to 14.6 BHP and you have to use L plates.

Or:

The recommended (imo) A2: This enables you (at 17 - 20) to take this test for any bike restricted to 33BHP for 2 years. After 2 years (minimum 19yrs old) you can ride any machine. With A2, no l plates are required, can ride on motorways, and cary pillions.

However, if you are 19 or 20 yrws of age, and take the A2 and find urself 21 before the 2yr a2 allows u, you can take another sped up course, so you can ride any machine.

So when your 17 you can take a restricted license and be restricted to 33bhp.

then 2 years later you can ride any bike you want?

You don't have to use L plates with an A1 licence. It's a full licence after all so you're not a learner anymore. Why anyone would bother to take the A1 test is beyond me however.

You do mate, its basically revalidating ur lcense, to purely ride 125 with loser plates, like u say, god knows why u would......

No, you've read it wrong. You do get rid of the L-plates on an A1 license, but you are still restricted to a 125cc (or less) motorcycle with no more than 14.6bhp as Chris said. Which still makes it completely pointless compared to the A2 test though.

ah, I just found something about the class A1 licence - aparently you take a CBT part two (which I've never heard of) and you get to keep your A1 entitlement without further CBTs

I'd not heard of that, otherwise I'd have done it years ago rather than revalidating my CBT.

When you take your A1 you are allowed to carry pillion passengers.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you can, an A1 licence is a full licence!

e.g

Arrow No L-Plates
Arrow Can carry pillions
Arrow Can use motorways (although I wouldn't recommend it)

Still kind of pointless though as your still restricted to a learner spec bike.
