Hi dunno if this is any use to anyone, but maplins have an 80 quid bluetooth throat mic in the clearance sale for 20 quid. Just got one myself but not got a chance to test it out yet. As most bluetooth headsets dont fit under a helmet i thought it might be good for wearing under your helmet to use the old mobile... or that special forces tactical look like Brucie in Tears of the Sun Razz

How would one go about attaching this mic to their phone?

I've always wondered how they do it. Since every bloody phone has different connections.

Bluetooth 2, A2DP is the stereo over bluetooth profile and is usually part of the official "bluetooth 2" compliance package. Although having said that I've seen a fair few things claiming to be bluetooth 2 and missing alot of the supposedly basic profiles.

With one earpiece it's highly unlikely to be supporting stereo though Laughing

Via bluetooth, no wires or connectors, you can have your phone anywhere on you, in your pocket/tankbag/topbox/panniers/rucksack etc etc.

The mic picks up the sound from your vocal chords so shouldnt pick up any background noise? its attached to a soft rubberised band that goes round your neck and a tiny ear piece. Got to be better than trying to fit a big bushy mouthpiece to the inside of your lid right?

For 20 quid seems a bit of a bargain especially if they were 80 at one point Shocked

Oh crap of course it's via bluetooth... how stupid of me.

Do you reckon they're good at blocking noise such as a loud can, and the wind?

Also, are they waterproof?

Don't know why I'm asking you - you're not the one trying to sell it to me lol.

IMO the bluetooth unit looks a little bulky.
Does it swivel down at all?
If not then I'd be curious how comfortable and easy it is to wear under bike jacket + neck buff + etc.

from the maplin link

On the plus side appears marketed at those who don't want any nasty radiation near their brain (so move it to another part of the body Rolling Eyes). Probably not waterproof as looks like intended for for indoor/car use.

the bluetooth unit isnt too bad about the same size as most units thickness is just over a cm, length is about 2 inches (ive not got a ruler). doesnt swivel, doesnt really look waterproof and builds not brilliant either. Think its intended to and does look like it can sit under your collar. On a bike jacket so i'd say it would be pretty shielded from the elements but might poke you a bit though.

Will let you know the call quality soon.

Not being funny guys, do correct me if I am wrong, but if I was riding i would not want to be speaking on the phone at the same time. Regardless of this unique hands free. I just don't think it is worth loosing the concentration and risking something bad to happen.

What could you use this for? I'm guessing only a mobile phone, but would you be able to use it to communicate between bikers? Or would you only be able to do that by 1 calling the other?

Thanks, Jack

hurricanehollis, think you can hook it up to any bluetooth enabled device but not headset to headset unfortunately, that would be ace if you could though. ive had it hooked up to my macbook today to play about with, you could always use it to call another rider with same setup i guess for 2-way comms.

Godzgift, i do agree with you but its probably no more distracting than looking at boobs and billboards/listening to the radio/sneezing etc etc whilst riding. some people feel its fine using handsfree whilst driving/riding some dont. I rarely spend more than a couple mins on the phone anyway, just thought it would be handy to not have to stop, take you helmet and gloves off, fumble for phone and reverse procedure and ride off. Better to use voice dialing to call work and let them know im going to be late because im "stuck" in traffic... Wink

You forget police and instructors normally use some sort of radio whilst riding.

Stalk nice one Thumbs Up you're right voice quality is actually alright.
