What a great CBT day.

Had my CBT last Saturday, and passed I thought I would explain to everyone the great experience I had.

We Started about 9.30 in the morning, I walked in without my paper copy of the licence which didn’t help ( had to drive home to get it quickly). We were introduced to the Suzuki 125 van van bikes.

The instructor taking time to explain all the essentials, gearing system etc. The rain was full on and only stopped at certain intervals. We then had a ride around an empty area (off the road). Initially we were going round in circles whilst changing gears and getting used to the clutch. This was fine but it did take some time to control the biting points and the clutch. We also learned how to stop smoothly and safely.

Then we did some pieces of eight movements and emergency breaks in the rain, this lasted 2-3 hours. After lunch the instructor gave some theory about the road, Highway Code, bike control and awareness on the road. I have been driving cars for 6 years so this was ok. The instructor then took 2 people onto the road, one ped in front and the 125cc behind the instructor. I waited my turn which came 1 hour later. I then jumped onto a completely different van van 125 with a different gear stick and clutch. It seemed a bit scary when we just got onto the main roads straight away while trying to get used to the almost new controls.

We all had earpieces and it was great for the instructor to scream down my ear and guide me through whilst riding behind in the busy London roads To add whilst all this is going on it was really raining very hard. I kept on going up and down gears thinking the 125 was a formula 1 car, which was totally unnecessary. We also carried out some turning in the road and emergency stop in the road whilst being taught how important awareness is.

After riding about for 2 hours we came back to HQ and got the CBT certs. On the whole a truly great experience which I loved even though it involved riding through very heavy rain. I truly admire the work carried out by the CBT instructors as they have so little time to teach the bare essentials of the road/traffic rules and control of the vehicles. They truly do an amazing job.

For any new guys wanting to do a CBT here is a few tips I would recommend:
Ask prior to booking how many people out of with the instructor, remember 3 inc the instructor is the best.
LEARN the highway code before hand, this is Mandatory.
Arrive early and bring along both copies of your licence.
Try to wear waterproofs just to make your riding more comfy in case of rain.
Ask loads of questions, especially if you are not sure whilst learning.
Listen carefully to the instructor and above all ENJOY yourself.

Definately get it done Dischord, if you have your own bike im sure you will pay something like £ 50 - 70, maybe even less. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it, initally being put off by the rain.

I love those Van Van 125s, they are so cool! Shame they don't sell the 200cc version in the UK though.

Glad you enjoyed your CBT day, I did too and felt I learned a lot.

Wicked to hear you enjoyed it, i remember a couple of weeks back taking mine, came to the road ride and it hailed non stop for 2 hours, manoeuvres.... no problems, but road riding for first time and in hail is not a fun experience. congrats on cbt thou

I ran through a red light on mine cause i didn't wanna stop and there was no cars about, the instructor then stopped me. I got like 5 mins of shouting at me and then told me just to never do that again. So like 2 mins later i was at a red light but it wouldn't go green lol. So we had to run through a red light, i thought that was kinda funny lol.
