They will never be a proper supermoto, they are just tourer bikes with not much wind protection.

They really, really aren't. I test rode one recently, I was on it for about 3 minutes and took it back to the garage and took out an XR650. That's a proper fun bike.

The XT660 weighs 170kg dry and has about 48hp. A hardcore supermoto will only ever weigh about 110 kilos and won't have less than 50hp. World of difference.

i never said it was a hardcore supermoto, i said it was just as much fun.
i'm over 6'0 and weigh 18stone and i can chuck this thing about in the twistys with best of them, probably felt the same as u when i 1st got on it, yes its a heavy bike and took me a while to bring myself to trust the thing and find what it can do, now i'm getting footpegs on the ground which i never imagined would happen me first few months riding it
hasn't got as much grunt as other supermoto's but still enough!
mine is 52bhp but only cos i have added stage 1 & 2 filters, after market cans and removed air box snorkel, and that few bhp makes a hell of a difference!
but hey thats just my opinion of it, been riding it for little over a year now clocked up 13000 miles and have loved every second of it!

Good on ya. I didn't say they weren't fun, I just balked at you saying they were as fun as a hardcore supermoto. They just aren't, doesn't mean you can't arse about on one. By the same token I couldn't have one, cos once you've ridden the more hardcore variety it's difficult to go back.

just gotta find sumthin that ain't gonna winge about a fat git being on it! its either that or i'm gonna go for a bandit or a hornet as a second bike

Don't forget the Aprilia Pegaso Trail 650. Has the same Minarelli engine as the Yam.

I felt the same way about my XT when I got it - thought it was crap, mainly down to the bad fueling.

But after owning it for a year (9000 miles, 4 crashes, 4 tyres, a few oil changes & a set of rear pads) I can say that it is a great road bike - no offroader or full on supermoto tho. But that's not what the bike is about...

I didn't know there was a new KLR out??

I seen them on the net a while back, how much are they for a set?

I have just been using cheap and cheerful Dunlop 208's. Very Happy
