Subject says it all really. MOT due in a few weeks. I have both wing mirrors with cracked glass (bike blown over in wind twice! different side each time.

I can use the 2 mirrors fine, but wondered if they are going to fail the MOT being cracked.

Any ideas?

How bad is the crack? If it show multiple images, then yes it will. You could just get mirror glass to put over the top of each mirror. It'll pass that way.

mirrors aren't a requirement for a mot, but they may give you a warning.
my street fighter has no mirrors and gets through with no bother

I suspect it's one of those oddities. I'm pretty sure a broken mirror is a fail. No mirrors at all is a pass.

So, if you're worried, take them off before the test, you can put them back on after if you want.

A broken mirror is, because they think if any of the broken glass was to fall on the road it could cause a puncture.

Probably right as if its in the bike it should be fully functioning and road worthy, if its not there then it cannot be commented on.

Just found this, not the site or page that I was after but should be good enough.

Quote:
Mirrors

Not all mirrors on all vehicles are subject to Test, depending on the age of the vehicle. Those mirrors which must be checked must be

secure
visible from the driver's seat
not distorted or damaged so as to seriously impair the driver's view to the rear.

Yes its for a car, but the rules should still apply to a bike surly.

My bike passed with no mirror on, so I know for a fact they're not needed on bikes. Very Happy

Same way there's no requirement for any lights. Smile

The law on this stands the same as indicators, If there on the bike they must be in a serviceable condition and work correctly, (so if there cracked its a fail)

so lights...
surly if a bike doesnt have any lights apart from rear stop light(legal requirement) then it can only pass as a day time MOT, and can not be used at night??

i have my MOT due on thursday 5th, and have converted my bike with aftermarket polispot headlight, no clocks, no instrument lights or dials no side-light and raised front mud guard.

iv got to reconvert the thing back to standard, get the front fork seals replaced for the MOT and get it MOT'ed, then take all the standard bits off and replace them with all the aftermarket bits and peices to get it back to how i have it now. lot of messing around.....

was thinking on MOT'ing it with no lights, dials or gauges, any chance this would pass??? or should i stop being lazy LOL Thumbs Up

You can have no lights at all but it would only be a daytime MOT then.

Since mirrors are not tested then even if they are cracked they should not fail. Only on 4 wheeled vehicles are they obligatory in some cases.

OK.

It's an NSRr 125.

Both have a clear crack across them, and whilst not 'multiple images' there is a clear line through the middle.

Where would I purchase the 'clear mirrors' to stick on? This sounds the best (and thriftyist) option!

You are not required to have mirrors fitted, so you cannot fail for it.
