I've gained a new found respect for those who pillion regularly on fully blown sportsbikes.
My bike isn't even a proper modern sportsbike and it was hard work, so god knows what they're like these days. I always thought they looked a bit silly perched up that high. Certainly adds to the excitement though, and for some reason I feel much safer letting go at a constant speed than I did on the GPZs that I frequently pillioned on.
Bloody hard work under braking though, trying to press against the tank without bumming the rider. Although I don't think he would have minded!
And at low speeds, you're trying to sit still to not upset the balance of the bike and trying to relax and trying to hold yourself in the most uncomfortable position all at once...

Anyway, yeah sorry for that pointless little ramble, not sure what the point of it is. It was just all a bit and I wanted to draw a picture in paint.
OK thanks. ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

Riding pillion is quite hard at times, as you said when breaking hard. Also I dont personally like riding pillion as I have no control and dont like it to much. Also I hate taking pillions when they try and do the steering and lean |

I love their reactions when you do a risky over take.
You feel them tense up and say woah woah woah.

It feels different when you actually ride your own bike. When i didnt have a licence i used to pillion on my best mates bike all the time. And it got too the stage where i could tell what he was going to do before he would do it, i was forever rollacking him about thinking about getting the front up. I trusted him so much, comfortable wether on the back wheel or tonning. We did have a few hairy moments wheely holding on with one hand. But otherwise it felt great.
But now ive ridden my own bike for 4 months, i hate going pillion. I feel ive lost the ability to predict what he'll do. I dont feel safe knowing im not in control. And the thing is, hes a safer rider than me. Ive not get the same levels of self control. Ive strayed from my point a bit.
My point was, if you ride a bike, pillion feels absolutely horrific.

You can wrap your legs around him, but you wont want to do it on the bike. Its the lack of control you have, and the different riding positions. Its not too bad in a car because your liad back and comfortable, but pillion your holding on constantly hoping for them to do what you want them too. And it just doesnt work.

Only ever been pillion once, but that was with my CBT instructor, on the way to the CBT.
I've sat on the pillion seat of my own bike (stationary, on the centre stand), and that was enough for me. Why my son and OH are still keen, I have no idea ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Lol, when i bought my old SRAD600 the (then) owner took me for a test spin as a pillion. I'm 6 foot, he was a bit of a short arse, consequently i was able to see right over the top of his lid. He rode for about 1/2 a mile round some narrow twisty lanes as i grimly gripped on for my life. He pulled the bike over, turned round and said 'have you had enough yet?' - i nodded grimly, unable to speak a word (let alone form a sentence) and we turned around and headed back at a slightly more relaxed pace.
