I had a hornet (03) for a little while.
Although a lot of the equipment is budget, the bike is very well made. Usual honda 600 engine problems with the CCT (cam chain tensioner) so budget about 60-70 quid to fix that if it makes a harsh rattle when revving above 3k and below about 7k.
Check the keys are not bent at all, the petrol cap/seat locks are a bit dodgy and can easily break your key. Second to that make sure there are two keys as replacements are expensive and if you lose your only key its ££££££'s due to the HISS set up.
Other than that just check for the usual stuff like the fork seals, signs of crash damage, abuse (they peg out V easily so have a look at the hero blobs on the bottom of the pegs for major grindage!) etc.

Check head bearings from ham fisted wheelies.
Hardcore wheelie merchants may kill 2nd gear, quite rare though.
2000 and onwards got a 17 inch front up from 16, and better brakes. 2003 onwards got a styling update and a 17 litre tank up from 16.
They also tend to rumble/rattle a bit in neutral. If you pull the clutch in the noise should go away, they all do that sir. O and the gear box is meant to be a bit notchy. ____________________ My Flickr |
