Hello

You may remember me from threads such as 'I took my CBR into Chiswick Honda for a service and emerged £600 lighter cos it needed so much doing to it'. Well I've excelled myself this time.

Beginning of June, I bought an '01 Speed Triple. I'd fancied one ever since riding Rob's years and years ago. It had been sat a while (previous owner hadn't ridden it much) and wasn't running very well, so I took it into my local Triumph dealer for a full service.

They gave me a new 1050 Speed Triple as a courtesy bike.

This was a bad thing. A very, very bad thing.

Okay, I've managed to reign myself back from the limited edition orange tribal one with all the bits (a cool £9k), but alas I am weak-willed and yesterday I handed over the plastic for an '05 plate in black. Doh! Pick it up on Tuesday.

So now I will conceed to Rob... yes, you were right, the 1050 IS that much better than the 955i. It's so good that I'm willing to overlook the ugliest rear end since the teapot.

0% on balance transfers. Was a greater thing ever invented? Mr. Green

You bet your arse it is. My mates just got one in the British racing green they painted the anniversary speed triples in (because he works for triumph and can have his bike in any colour they do).

It is a very, very good motorcycle. It does have a cable operated clutch though which while very smooth when new, I can see getting pretty nippy as it wears. It makes strange whirring noises about ten seconds after you switch off the ignition which is apparently a thing that adjusts the idle speed.

EDIT: Obviously, this is a Tiger not a speed triple, but the motor is the same.

You sound very simlilar to a couple of mates of mine. One bloke popped into his local Honda dealership for a clutch cable and came back out the owner of a new Fireblade...!

Enjoy that new Speed Triple. I think I may need to pop to the local Triumph place and have a sit...and possibly blag a test ride. Seeing as I have no money anyway, it won't make any difference whether I want the bike or not!!! Laughing

What you doing with the "old" Triple? Is that going in for part-ex or are you keeping it?

Just watch out for the upto 3% fee for doing this, that some charge... No such thing as a free lunch on plastic now.

There is if you get a) 1% cashback on the original card transaction and b) 6% interest on the money for the bike which is stashed away in your svings account and staying there 'til the end of the 0% period, or you pay off the min balance each month and put another chunk away in the savings account at 6% 'til the balance is due........ Thumbs Up

Its going as a part-ex. Alas, the new one doesn't come in any particularly stupid colours.

Be warned, to test it is to want it. I couldn't really afford it either. Neutral
