 |
|
Hello,
I did something today and afterwards thought I perhaps shouldn’t have done. Approaching a pedestrian crossing a bus was pulled in on the left (still indicating left) picking up passengers. I could see that there were still loads of people waiting to get on the bus and the lights at the crossing were green. I decided to nip past the bus. I still could have stopped for a pedestrian if there happened to be one.
It did occur to me afterwards that I had technically overtaken the nearest vehicle to a crossing, which is totally not allowed. Can anyone clarify if in this situation I broke the law?
Cheers |

Depends on the road markings and the position of the bus relative to them.
If there were no zig-zag markings on the approach to the crossing, no problems.
So, assuming there were zig-zags, providing the bus wasn't actually stopped on the zig-zags and that you didn't cross a solid centre line, you are allowed to pass it.
If they have put a bus stop on zig-zags, you're not allowed to pass it. Equally, this would mean the bus driver is committing a motoring offence every time he stops at it because you're not allowed to stop on zig-zags unless there are pedestrians on it or a stopped vehicle in front of you.
Putting a bus stop on zig-zags should therefore earn whoever put it there a slap upside the head. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Cheers guys. I have had a look on google maps (satellite view) and I think I have found the spot. The bus stop is back from the zig-zags so it seems I was in the clear. I’ll have a better look next time I am going that way.
Thanks for the lesson |
