Don't you just love that feeling when you have just saved a massive incident from turning into an expensive crash.

A mate and myself were coming home down some twisties on the way home and we hit a hairpin type of corner. Been up this road many times before so knew what to expect but I didn't expect this.

About 30 mph with my mate in front into the big left hander and my front wheel tucked, I screwed the throttle and the backend went out sending me sideways, how I didn't highside the bike I'll never know.

Don't understand what actually happened, I'm running Bt020's at the minute and I've had a close call nearly every day. Once I get over so far the bike just drops violently as if its going to go to the ground. I don't think its my confidence as I'm more than willing to get cranked over but it puts me off everytime this happens. Just feels like I'm riding on the edge of the tyre and there is no more grip as it feels ropey as fuck... there is still about a centimeter of chicken strip to go to the edge of the tyre so its not as if I'm using all of it.

anyone any idea what is doing this? Thumbs Up Karma

Mines does this too, notice it on lefts more too. It leans for ages then drops that final 2/3 inches quite violently but it takes a while to get used to it.

Sounds like your rear tyre is squared off, or your tyre pressures are wrong.

Sounds like your right to me Marjay.

Also I have a RS125 with BT020's on and rest assured you wont fully get the chicken strips of the tyre.

Due to the shape of the type you scrape your pegs before you run off the edge!

I proberly have between 5-8mm round both edges. Thumbs Up

I've done something similar,

I went round a very tight left hander (10 mph ish) in the damp, just as i changed up to second the backend went out and spat me out of the seat, i landed on the bars (this is before i had Renthals, so no bar pad Sad) and somehow stayed on, coming to a stop at the other side of the road. I have since changed the tyres. Laughing

It certainly is. I am confident that the size of my chicken strips are smaller than most. Cool

Maybe he just has a massive willy so doesn’t feel the need to over compensate

But your not far wrong. Laughing Thumbs Up

I always thought it was the rear that would go off, never a front. Just fitted a new rear but mines was probably a bump mid-bend that unsettled mines.

Were the tyres cold? If it's happening all the time marjays probably right. When it's squared off you go from a large contact patch to a smaller one in a sharp move rather than a smooth curve. Unsettles the bike pretty badly.

I went for a blast to Market Rasen with my new Pilot Sport on - only done about 50 miles on it - started hammering down and my front end felt like it was on marbles - now that was an experience and half! Laughing

When i had the r6 the front was already squared off, probably due to low front tyre pressure.

Hmmm, I take it you have never owned an RS125??!

The pegs bottom out before you run out of tyre. Well not exactly true but hard to explain, the tyre is more "U" shaped than most and has a sharper curve to the tyre.

I have destroyed my knee sliders on the RS125 / RF600 so getting it cranked over is no problem, same as I have scrubbed the
"hero blobs" in.

With the current standard setup and a big fella like me squashing down the rear suspension Embarassed I do not deem it possible to get the last few mill of chicken strips warn away.

Also I have never seen any other RS with fully warn chicken strips.

Please prove me wrong. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I take it you have never been to the Isle of Man then and looked at people's tyres instead of their "pretty" paint jobs.

I saw an RS125 back in June over there , both front and rear were absolutely abused. the front was so worn it was unbelievable. it was a stock RS- the geezer could just ride it properly.

i've been riding a CBR4 for 6 months now, and the IOM was the first ride i could properly lean it over. in 1 week i got rid of the chicken strips on the rear.
for people that've been riding for years and are actually decent riders-having no chicken strips on the front of an RS shouldn't be hard at all.

I think you find that anyone who says they can use what their bike has to offer on normal roads is a liar, or Brue Anstey.
