First and probably last off

Hi, last wednesday me and a friend went out on a last minute ride, he hasnt been riding long so he was infront. A left hander came up (neither of us knew the road) and the corner suddenly tightened up, causing him to end up on the wrong side of the road. He hit a pug 306 head on and went flying over the car, and before i could say fucking hell, his bike was 3ft in the air and ended up taking me out in the arm and chest, totally missing my bike. I ended up on the deck as did my bike. Ambulance came after half an hour, leathers cut off me and off i went on a stretcher. My mate was fine somehow, he said he had jumped on impact. I had surgery almost as soon as i got there, forearm bones clean in half, right wrist broken. Now ive got 2 plates in my forearm and 12 screws, with a rod through my wrist holding it together. Spent 4 days in hospital. Both bikes and the car are write offs.

Im going to miss riding, i would ride another bike but after seeing my parents faces when they came to see me on oxygen and a drip, i dont think its fair on them if i get back on the horse (im only 19)

Anyways im stuck in the house bored so thought id post this, we've both been very lucky and im grateful its not worse.

haha it happened too fast mate, if id ducked my arm would still have been in the same place anyways, and i could have probably said bye bye to the old collar bone

Oh and flashbacks are all part of the healing process, don't get too phased by them.

Glad your still in one piece, Believe me the look on your parents faces would have been the same if you were in a car accident, believe me I have been through it. Just get yourself better and don't rush things.

If he was going too fast on an unfamiliar road and that was what caused him to run wide well really it is your friends fault.....

Hes lucky to be uninjured and your lucky to be alive Phil! Give him a good slap-when your healed enough.

recon the road before going fast on it (I did this in France too , the N202 and N85 were quickly done , and notched up to warp speed on my 2nd and 3rd runs).

also keep large gaps between the guy infront and behind and keep off the front!.

to be fair we were doing 30mph as we didnt know the road, i think he grabbed the front brake tbh, but yeah we have been very lucky and his lesson learnt, cheers for the replies

Firsty really sorry to hear about your accident! Glad to hear you are on the mend and your mate is OK (Lucky he was not killed)

Obvoulsy the car will be claiming of your mates insurance. Just wondered where you stand. Legally you could claim of your mates third party insurance as he caused the accident thus it won't be a fault claim on your policy thus no insurance exess.

Also of if you were not mates I am sure you would be filling an injury claim.

Difficult situation though when he is your mate, Hoever he will be losing his noclaims anyway due to the car? Just a thought!

The lad is bolloxed anyway and you are claiming off his insurance not off him. loose the arm through infection and you are talking a percentage of a couple of hundred thousand pounds (depending on how much liability they attribute to him for following too closely and unable to break in time.

bazza, to be fair your probably right he was gong too fast for his ability, i didnt go wide on the corner but he did and im sure hes learnt his lesson.

Before id even gotten out of hospital i had a letter about bike inspection, injury claim and bike and gear claim.

As people are saying, he is my friend and i will be claiming from his insurance company for all of the above, and not claiming directly from his pocket. Afterall, thats what his insurance policy is for.

Anyone got any rough figures of compo theyve had or heard of for similar injuries? just out of curiosity ive got to have something to look forward too apart from being healthy again
