How much do you reckon it will cost for the 2nd service on a honda xr125?

I got my XR125 serviced a couple of weeks ago, cost £60ish quid.

Mmm, did you not think to ask when you booked it in ? Confused

I love stuff like this where folks will ask on a forum, but never ring the place thats doing the work and can give them the correct price.... Rolling Eyes

As a point of interest what would you do if it was say £100+ and you only got £50...

My answer is SOD IT DO IT YOURSELF!

It's piss easy to do.

The bike doesn't have a oil filter as such, it's behind the sump bolt and is a filter screen. Off comes the sump bolt into your hands, out comes filter screen followed by hot oil Thumbs Up. Fill up with the recommended 0.9 l of oil.

Then off come calipers, check for wear, replace if necessary ( i chose to bleed mine afterwards). Checked chain for adjustment - didn't need it.

All in all i only spent 7 quid on oil and borrowed the tools Thumbs Up

Or would you rather do it because you're 17 or something, don't really trust yourself yet on a set of spanners and would want a full service history? Take it from me, those bikes RUN on NEGLECT!

I got mine done simply for the dealer stamp for a full service history. The bike's in mint condition with no drops, no scratches and no mod's. Meaning I can get maximum value when it comes to an upgrade!

True but no service=No warranty if something goes wrong. You don't have to take it to a Honda Stealer either.

As for keeping a XL pristine why? Its an off roader, you may as well got a pink scooter. Wink

The Honda warrantee allows you to service the bike yourself.

It says so in the warrantee book that comes with the bike.

I also phoned the Honda customer support line who also confirmed this.

Most Honda dealers refuse to do warrantee work unless its been serviced by a Honda dealer and the book is stamped. This is because they make a fortune in servicing, sometimes I calculated they were charging several hundreds of pounds per hour in labour alone.

The government passed a new law a few years ago banning the warrantee on any vehicle being scrapped due to it being serviced outside the dealer network.

The rules are as long as the fault has not been caused by bad servicing, the warrantee stays intact.

Some manufacturers are breaking the law, Triumph states it must be serviced by one of their dealers.

I bought my Honda bike from the one dealer who would let me service it myself, further more they showed my how to do it! It is a Honda CG125 which is the same engine as the off road 125.

I have one very strong peace of advice for people who insist on paying for their bike to be serviced by a mechanic. Insist on them telling you their hourly labour rate and make sure they will let you watch them work. You will then now if they have serviced the bike and also the time it takes. Do not be surprised to find they take less than 20mins on a bike as simple as the above and you will now for sure they have not just charged you for the service and not done anything. There are no parts required except 0.9 litres of oil.

Agree with all the above, however I would MUCH rather buy a bike that has a full service history with stamps in the service book than has been serviced by the owner themselves. I doubt I'm alone in thinking this, which in turn leads to the bike being worth more when I finally come to sell it...

Its a balance with a 'simple' bike of this kind - a couple of dealer services will cost what you would gain at resale for a stamped service book...

You do know that the dealer will fleece you anyways come trade-in time... its how they make their living!

it was before they had opened, and i was just interested, i knew i had enough to cover it
