The new Gilera Fuoco is 500cc, 40 bhp and i was reading an article that says the 0 to 60 is 7 secs, tops out at 90 mph

How does that compare to a 500 cc Motorcycle. Question

For what it's work, my CBR600F, has a book 0-60 of 3.2 sec. I'd say a 500 sports bike wouldn't be far off that. Not 100% like, someone else might be able to get stats off Google.

If my GPZ500 took 4 seconds to hit 60 I'd be surprised. I've seen 130mph on the clock on my A2 model (downhill), in reality probably just over 120mph flat out.

i`m fairly sure a commuter 500 like the CB / GS can hit 60 in not much more than 4 seconds.

Sorry to cut it, but that doesnt compare competitively lol Rolling Eyes
All I can say is: a 33bhp rs125 will do 0-60 in 7-8seconds Wink
40bhp is quite low mate, but its not designed for speed i suppose.

I'm sorry but they look like fun.

One feature I like is you can lock the lean at the lights so you don't have to put you feet down then the min you start moving it unlocks.

I wonder if you can do a stoppie on them?

A think a wheelie would be a bit much unless it had a Sparks! esque rear sprocket.

Thought they looked butt ugly at first however they are amazing to drive (I tried the 250 version). Tons of places round the UK have demo bikes I would really recommend trying one. They are quite heavy though (they don't feel it though) so are not as fast as other scooters with the same engine in.

Its a single.. this makes a big difference, most 500's are twins or fours. Also this is going to be subject to a restrictive exhaust with all new kitten friendly emissions and a "user friendly" low state of tune.

Depending on how they are on a v5 they might become very popular in lahnddahn..

I'd not mind one for touring and whatnot, commuting I'd imagine they'd be good as well.. At lest there doing something interesting not just churning out race replicas and adding 50cc to every model every year. /controversial

i read somewhere that the kawasaki ER-5 did 0-60 in about 5 seconds. Although most people buying 500s (most of them are commuters) aren't that fussed about their 0-60 anyway. If you want a fast accelerating bike, get a sports 600 Thumbs Up

A 636 will get to 60 faster then most 1000cc sports bikes (only by a few 100's of a second), 100mph will be close but the 1000 will own a 600 to 150+! A sports 600 is faster then any big twin for instance a RSV will do 140 in 12.48 and a 636 is around 11.38.

Really? so a bike that has an extra 50bhp and a fair chunk more torque is slower? i know they are heavier but i didnt think it was by that much? wierd. Confused

I guess its just harder to put all that power down in 1st gear? I know its weird but those are facts.

The 1000cc will be more wheelie prone making it difficult to put the power down. More likely its down to rider skill

636s are deceptively quick.

I was on a triumph sprint RS (high power version) ~119bhp.
A mate on his 636. We both exited a roundabout, and /nailed/ it.

He cruised past before too long.

Obviously the sprint isn't a sports bike, but it is still a litre triple and it was definitely out accelerated.
