As the name says, I was just curious as I wouldn't mind one of those as my first 'big' motorbikes, as it would look a lot nicer than a faired bandit or cbr 400, thansk for any help...

Um, yeah. Apparently it is not yet confirmed for production, but it looks as if Europe is going to get a few.

Can I suggest something that doesn't have a grenade-with-the-pin-pulled-out Husqvarna motor in it as a first 'big' bike?

It is fairly likely to be useless for anything other than track days, have short maintenance intervals (and not just changing oil, talking rebuilds here, expensive 4 stroke rebuilds) have a tiny fuel tank etc.

Of course everyone wants one Laughing

I was just suggesting that it may not be suitable for a new big bike rider or easy or cheap to maintain. Then again the OP does ride an RS125, so knock yourselves out.

This will be the first bike I buy straight out of the showroom.
I had a Mito as my first bike and have since moved up to 600's and I really miss that bike, best thing I have ever rode.

Hi

Weren't there stories about them changing to a more normal engine a couple of months ago. Hyosung 650 twin engine. Which seems to rather defeat the object of the exercise, although it might be people getting confused with some plans to use the Hyosung V twin engine in the Raptor.

All the best

Keith

Could be most possibly the case. I was told that the hyosunng engines were cheaper to manufacture than their suzuki counterparts, hence cagiva are able to keep the unit cost down? Somehow, i begin to think that the machine is being built to a price and may not be what everybody expects it to be?Having a machine like this is bound to lead to great expectations and i feel that the husky engine would have been a better solution - a "purists" machine. People buying this would probably have the intention of using it on track or as a weekend tool maybe? They'd have a sensible bandit or CB500 as their weekday bike?

Having a "purist" bike that hardly anyone buys doesn't make enough money though, no matter how good it is at it's specific job.

I thought the original bike was being done for people wanting to compete in the mono race series? If it's gone up to a twin 650 motor then it gets interesting. I'm reckoning that it'll still be light as hell and with the extra power and reliability I wouldn't mind a shot at one.

The Husqvarna motor would have been nice, but they are hard work to keep going. Plus I'm not sure it would have matched the type of bike the Mito is, big and vibey the little Mito would have shaken itself back into it's component pieces pretty damn quick.

Well having said that - aint Yammy's SZR600 powered by a single pot thumper - and that's in a TZR125 chassis? Didn't fare too badly based on what other people have said on here? Could be "retuned" (unlikely). But 650 seems viable for the reasons mentioned. I read somewhere that it was also going to be manufactured in India (or was that on another article on the same page?) also to save costs?

Hi

The SZR660 used the Italian market TZR125 frame, which was meant to have been the frame from a slightly older TZR250. Not that quick and need a good rider to get the most from them (but a good rider can get a hell of a lot from them, saw one on a track day at Silverstone who was one of the quickest in the fast group).

However big difference is that the SZR engine is a fairly low powered single taken from a road bike (XTZ660). Designed for long service intervals, ease of maintenance, etc. The Husky engine they were talking of for the Mito chassis was a competition engine. Designed to get the most power for the least weight, with enough reliability to avoid imitating a grenade before the end of a race.

All the best

Keith

They need to put the engine from the Aprilia SXV550 into it!

The mito frame is easy enough to adapt at home. there are that many different engines in Mitos, it's unreal. There's a 500 turbo, a 650 Suzuki V-Twin, a TZR250 3MA, an XT660, RGV250 and RD350 YPVS engines that i know of that are in Mito frames.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the finished mito 500 won't have any of the fancy pants parts such as a comp spec engine, or marvic wheels. I think the idea of the 500 should be taken with a pinch of salt.
