I thinking of buying a 1998 Triumph T595 Daytona with 30k on the clocks, is there anything I should be looking for?

The bike has a scorpion exhaust and has been dynomapped, the rest is pretty standard.

Don't talk on subjects on which you have no knowledge. The Triumph TT600 had iffy fuel injection, but the T595 is the old name for the 955i Daytona.

I used to have a 955i daytona from the year they changed the name. It was an excellent bike. It was built to last and was very very quick. The only problem I had was that it was a little large for little old me.

The T595 models only have a couple of things you need to watch out for. The main one is that the downpipes weren't designed that well and can ground out before the pegs under hard cornering, but I doubt that will ever be a problem on the road. The other is that the very earliest T595's had a problem with frames cracking around the headstock, but they were ALL replaced under warranty for free.

You need to check the warranty work has been done, which you can do by calling Triumph and checking the VIN against their records. It only affected the very first batch of T595's though.

Mine has done 30,000 miles + . I know because a friend of mine bought it back off of the person I sold it to. He still has it, and it still looks like new. Compared to a modern superbike its a fat old bus, but it still makes 120bhp in the most excellent triple way and still can hustle when you need it to. Its not superfast on the turn in, but it is absolutely rock solid in corners. You'll be hard pressed to provoke a tankslapper from one of those babies.

They can also be tuned up to 146bhp by Wilcox, but it does cost £££ and you lose a bit of midrange.

They aren't all that comfortable, but they look great (IMO) and they go like the clappers. I had to sell mine to safeguard my license. I once did a trackday on it at Cadwell and on the M1 on the way home (which was very quiet) I couldn't understand why all the cars were going so slowly, and that was because I was doing 130mph! Smile

If its got a race can, make sure it has the Triumph Race can tune, otherwise it can run really roughly. I had mine dynoed with a road legal race exhaust on it and it made 89bhp Embarassed

I removed the baffles and it went back up to 120bhp!

They are great bikes and they are really really really solid. Plus if it *does* somehow go pop, there is a Triumph specialist breaker in wales that will sell you a reconned engine with all the accessories, as there are a lot of them around because they are so tough.

Yea, the Speed Four had same engine as TT600 (except different cams and makes a little less power) and has a really annoying 3.5k stutter that means slipping the clutch and just making lot of noise in town if you have a race can. Outside town its not a problem.

Yea some cans just dont suit these engines. Ive found my Devil one has not made the 3.5k stutter worse and think its actully a bit less evident. Triumph Race Cans are quite expensive for what that are and think branded end cans look nicer, best thats subjective Thumbs Up

I found useing BP Ultimate fuel smoothed out the 3.5k glitch.
Still evident but no where near as violent.

Like MarJay says, there have been a couple of recalls and you can check that they have been done on the Triumph website - all you need is the last chassis number. If any need doing just give your local Triumph dealer a call with the mileage and last 6 digits of the chassis number and they can arrange for them to be done FOC.

The mirror stems crack on almost all of them, they aren't flexible and so crack easily if based. Replacements are very pricey so most people don't bother.

Be wary if the its got an aftermarket air filter, these can make the bike idle high and burn oil.

If the battery is low and bike is turned over you can trash the starter clutch, depending on the exact engine it can be a £1000 bill for a dealer to replace it (some need the cases splitting).

Hi, if it's got a power commander, then you won't need to have the dealer change the map. Smile

The power commander will be setup from whichever it was run on at the time of setup, ie, stock/race map from the dealer. If you then go changing to the stock/race map you'll upset the air/fuel mixture. Smile

Found this out the hard way on my Daytona 600. Smile

Hi

Use Tuneboy software and it is easier than a power commander, plus does the job directly.

Ichy, nope not buying another bike. Just picking up some brake pads.

All the best

Keith
