Do you lot ride your bikes in the wet?

When i first got my bike i was a bit (maybe too) cautious. I didnt like riding to quickly and would rather walk to work if it was pissing down, (it was only a few mins walk).

Now the office has moves sites and i have to ride but the weather is getting shite!

Coming off a roundabout this morning i almost shit as i felt the whole bike shift sideways and i wasnt even going quick. I purposly ride slower and take more care in the wet, as im sure most do.

I was wondering if you lot ride no matter what the weather or do you try and find another way to work. Some of you may have cars or be able to get lifts/bus/tube.

What about when it starts snowing/sleeting and leaves slush other crap on the road. Is it just me?

I do indeed ride in all weathers becuse I work 45 miles from home.
I don't mind riding in the rain, the sleet and snow are a bit crap though, and I hate the foggy mornings Confused

Hi

Yes I ride the bike in pretty much all weathers. Brakes on the Bimota are useless in the wet though so I avoid using that in the rain. I avoid riding in the snow unless I have to.

Yes there is less grip!

All the best

Well I did the road section of my CBT in the rain so it really doesn't bother me that much! Rain ain't that nice but with waterproofs its ok. High wind bothers me more.

Snow is not fun - have only done it once and I've no idea how I managed to stay upright! I ended up facing accross the road a couple of times.

I ride in the rain, and never encountered a problem on the Blade or any other bike i've owned. I wouldn't ride in the snow or ice, that's just silly.

I ride in the rain all the time. Its ok as long as you have decent wet weather gear. Just having waterproofs over your leathers gets really hot. I can definatly recommend 'Rukka' gear - its really warm and dry in the cold and wet! no leaks (yet!) and have been using it for over 2 years now! Also Daytona boots are really good in the wet too. No wet feet! Smile

I don't mind riding in the rain too much.

To be honest I think it improves throttle control and smoothness. I really enjoyed doing a session in the wet at Cadwell, most of the rest of my group chickened out, so I had the track pretty much to myself. Very Happy

I don't mind riding in the rain on motorways and such, but I'm not overly fond of it round town, just because of the amount of diesel and shit floating around.

Have had a few slithers round roundabouts last winter and it's something I would quite happily live without. That said, it was on the shitty Pirrellis I had on the CB, which everyone was always condemning - the 010s are supposed to be pretty decent in the wet so diesel slicks aside, so it should be better this year.

I have a cheap scrambler for the winter which doesnt really get damaged if dropped, its fallen of its side stand about 6 times since i got it and there hasn't been any damage. Razz Plus parts are dead cheap for it, new clutch cost 16 pounds.

Last winter I rode a scooter in the snow/ice ended up doing a nasty doughnut in the middle of the road accidently in front of on coming traffic. Avoid riding in the snow at all cost. Last year it snowed and then froze over so the whole of the road was basically a sheet of ice, not nice at all.

I have a problem with that regardless of how much care i take over it.

Slowly slowly throttle up and it still jerks like the chain is slack or something. Its not, because ive just had it serviced (early) and he adjusted it then.

Rode the scoot to work once in the snow,
Early 5 am, sunday morning, no one is out.

i fell of 4 times, twice before i even got of the drive... :S

scoots tend to looe grip and keep acclerating with a tiny bit of throttle (gearing keeps gonig up as it thinks its acclerating)

and way all the times i feel off where at 0 - 5 mph

no damage.

once it was gonig at 20mph it was alright to control but the thing was a bitch for getting it to move with out it spinning, good job there made from just plastic.

I started riding bikes in december so i'm used to riding in crap weather. I've ridden twice in the snow and that was on my KH125. A few weeks after I had passed my CBT I woke up to find the world a lovely white colour, then I realised I had to ride to college, doh! Rolling Eyes Laughing I didn't crash though, the second time I rode in the snow I dropped it outside my dads, luckily he didn't see. Very Happy

The main thing to be careful with in the rain is that you seperate acceleration (that includes breaking) and turning.

An alright bike with decent tyres should allow you enough lean to get your knee down in the wet.
Not suggesting you try that, but get used to braking way before you need to turn and not otuching the throttle until you're out of the corner.
Also try and keep your lines smooth and you should be fine.

Ah, the rain hasn't bothered me as of yet but if it is really windy or as soon as the ice/snow kicks in I think I may find another way. It will depend on the view from the window in a morning me thinks!
Hopefully will be able to cram a car test in before the year is out so with any luck should be able to drive through the remaining bad weather after I return from Egypt in January Mr. Green , which no doubt Shaun will be happy about!

/me looks forward to days of 'taxi for friends' Rolling Eyes

I ride in the rain all the time, have also ridden 2 winters in snow and ice. Riding in snow is ok, altho i was doing it last on the CB250 which had deep treaded tyres, not all that fast accelerating, and was always revving very low (high gear, low revs) so it was doing all it could to aid traction.

Rain is never a problem. It was a bit hairy the other day, seeing as it was one of the first rides on the VX in over a month, and the first one in the rain. During the month of standing my VX had abosrbed some oil from my garage floor into the tyres, so i span the tyre up a few yards from work. Took it easy for a few miles after that.

However, this year i have a car for the really nasty days, and a train for when the car won't start.

All weathers as it's my only form of transport.

Not overly fond of the rain though having stacked it in the rain twice.

At the moment I ride my GS500 in all conditions.
Next week though, I am putting the GN250 back on the road, so I might have a crack at snow riding on that Smile

I have ridden in every type of weather the UK has to offer.
I'll be sticking with the car this winter though as Chez doesn't like going on the bike in the cold/wet and I don't fancy sliding the Blade like I slid the Gixxer.

I ride in the rain and I ride soo slow aswell. Don't dare take risks as I learnt from crashing while sitting on the back of my friends Hornet.

Snow. Rode in last years london's little blizard and it was a nightmare a 5 mintue trip took me 45 minutes Confused Shocked and I stalled on a roundabout 11 times, the back end kept sliding out everytime I tried to pull off. It was scary stuff.
