NEMAG hope to host the first "Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycling" on a sea-front site in Whitley Bay in mid-August next year.

This will be more than a "normal" MAG rally, incorporating access for the public to ogle custom & classic bikes, trade stands etc., as well as camping, catering and entertainment for bikers.

We hope to involve local classic and owners clubs, as well as MCC's to put on a good show for Joe Public to raise our profile and hopefully destroy a few "hairy-arsed biker" stereotypes.

Watch this space or PM me for further details.

Hiya

Yeah, actual dates are 10-12 August 2007.

This promises to be a premier event for the North East - any clubs, dealers or exhibitors interested in being involved, please contact Mick at the Avalon (info@theavalon.co.uk) or Ian Cook, North-East MAG Rep. (north-east-region@mag-uk.org).

This year will see the first ever "Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles" take place from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August, on the Beaconsfield at Tynemouth.

Organised jointly by North East Region MAG and The Avalon Hotel Whitley Bay, with the backing of North Tyneside Council, the Festival will be a celebration of all things motorised and two-wheeled. Exhibitors will include custom bikes and trikes, scooters, classic and vintage machines. There will be attractions, demonstrations and presentations from all manner of motorcycle clubs, traders and dealers.

The event will open on Friday at 12 pm, with both weekend camping tickets and day tickets available in order to make it an event open to everyone, whether to enjoy the motorcycles combined with taking in the delights of Whitley Bay and Tynemouth for the weekend, or for families and enthusiasts alike to just soak up the atmosphere and admire the bikes on display. Live music will be playing throughout the daytime and in the evening, after the day ticket holders leave, top local bands will be appearing in the main marquee.

Saturday morning will kick-off with more displays and presentations and, in the afternoon, there will be a Grand Cavalcade of motorcycles along the picturesque sea-front to Whitley Bay itself, which will then return for the bike show presentations. The standard of entries for the bike show is expected to be very high with categories for classics, modern and custom machines. British, European, and Japanese bikes and those from the New World will be in the show. There will be strong representation from local clubs and it is hoped the show will attract many more unusual entrants! Music will again be playing throughout the day and in the evening.

For those wishing to explore the local area, there is one of the best beaches in the North of England just across the road from the show field, perfect for paddling and rock pooling. Whitley Bay and Tynemouth both have an abundance of hospitable hostelries and Newcastle upon Tyne is only half an hour's metro ride away. Further afield, the beautiful Northumberland coast, Hadrian’s Wall country and the Cheviot hills are less than an hour away, on some of the best riding roads in the country!

An absolute must, when in Whitley Bay, is to call into The Avalon Hotel on South Parade for a drink and a bite to eat. The Avalon has been under the management of Mick & Kath Farwell, who are jointly organising the Festival with NE MAG, for the past couple of years and they have developed a broad clientele, but with an emphasis on motorcyclists. They keep real ales and an excellent collection of malt whisky. B&B is available at excellent rates (with MAG members’ discount) for those wishing for more salubrious accommodation than a tent!

Camping this year will be for up to 900 people, keeping the intimate atmosphere of a smaller rally, but with the added attraction of a multitude of things to see and do during the day.
From this small beginning it is hoped that the Festival will grow in subsequent years to become one of the premier attractions in the motorcycle calendar.
ENDS.

Press Release: Extreme Globe Riders to appear at The Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles!

The Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles opens at 12 noon on Friday 10th August until Sunday 12th August 2007 on the Beaconsfield, Grand Parade, Tynemouth NE30 4JF.

The Extreme Globe Riders are a unique, exciting and heart stopping motorcycle stunt show. Emerging form the Moto Rodeo in 1999, the Extreme Globe Riders have toured 14 different European countries. In 2005, new member joined the first female Globe rider! Together they skilfully ride around inside the globe at over 70 km per hour crossing in front of each others paths both horizontally and vertically!

The Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles has been fortunate to book the Extreme Globe Riders to perform on Saturday 11th August at the Festival.

Make sure that you don’t miss the show by purchasing your pre book tickets now (outlet addresses below), this is a fantastic show filled with tension and surprises!

The show is led by professional rider Mikko Leivo from Nokia in Finland who is an ex-world championship level trial rider AND the only person in Europe that can ride totally upside down!! He will warm up the audience at the beginning, and then the beautiful Heidi Sarpola, an ex-track and field competitor, also from Finland, will join him inside the Iron Cage.

Heidi was studying Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Tampere, but now is having a break from academia to work with Mikko as an Extreme Globe Rider.

Mikko still says “riding in the steel globe felt at the time and still feels now like the most challenging and hardest thing you can imagine doing with a motorbike”. He added “before, I thought I had mastered it all, but this brought a whole new challenge to my life and it completely took my heart”.

Check out the YouTube link for a taster of what they offer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUYnov9ruNo

As well as the Extreme Globe Riders, there will be displays of custom, classic and racing motorcycles, scooters and trikes, trade stalls and exhibitors. On Saturday afternoon, judging of the bike show will take place following a Grand Cavalcade of motorcycles along the sea-front.

There will be live music from several top local bands in the main marquee on Friday and Saturday evenings for weekend ticket holders only, so why not grab yourself a bargain and buy a weekend ticket to see the bands and evening entertainment even if you don’t fancy camping?
