Im going to be sitting a 5 day intensive bike course in about a month and have been looking at buying a cbr600F (altho its stated at 599cc).

I'd have to limit it to 125cc for about a year until i hit 21 then get it derestricted.

I've heard that some bikes dont handle restrictions well and i was just wondering if the cbr600f's would handle being restricted.

You can't limit a bike to 125cc.

If you pass your test, you need to limit it to 33bhp, it'll still be a 600cc bike, just making 33bhp rather than 100-odd.

It'll be restricted to 33bhp, not 125cc.

Also, you can't just unrestrict it when you hit 21.
Basicly (as you're under 21), you'll do your full motorcycle test on a 'communter' 500 (CB500, GS500 or such bike), that'll allow you to ride any motorbike, providing it's restricted to 33bhp.. When you eventually turn 21, you'll be allowed to do your accellerated access (re-take your test), and then, finally, you'll be allowed to ride a fully un-restricted bike.

I'm sure it's explained better elsewhere, but that's basicly it...

Oh, and as for how well the CBR-F will restrict, no idea :p Am sure it'll survive though!

always get the 125cc and 33bhp thing mixed up, wish bike liscences and restricitions were simpler.

yeh i'd have to resit the test but after a year of using the bike im sure i'd be able to pass the test easily (thats assuming that i havent picked up a lot of bad habbits)

*cough*

Not quite.

You'll need CBT, Theory and Hazard perception passes before you are allowed to do the practical test. You will be required to perform everything I had to but you will have to do it on a 125cc bike rather than the 500 I did my DAS on.

If you pass the practical the you will earn a restricted licence. This means you can legally only ride bikes putting out 33bhp or less for two years. Only when that two years is up will you be on an unrestricted licence.

For you turning 21 will make no difference at all (except possibly to your insurance), unless you retake your test. Why you'd want to do this I've no idea.

Sports 600s will take restriction but they generally aren't happy about it.

Suggest you either restrict a GPZ500s, Gs500f or CB500s or get yourself a bike that makes less than 33bhp anyway such as the GT250R

the 5 day intensive has the cbt on the 1st day and i have booked my theory and hazard perception test already.

I'd rather go for a 600 then restrict it then unrestrict it instead of buying a bike then selling it to buy another one a year later.

was just curious if restricting the bike will have any bad effects on the bike

Should be ok.

You're restricted for 2 years, by the way. It doesn't stop at 21 unless you sit another test.

yeh i'l be doing the test again a year later when im 21, unless i think 33bhp is enough for what i need it for. I dont plan on doing any racing or going fast, just getting from home to work and college.

how much does it cost to limit a bike anyway?
