since they were introduced people have moaned about them

recently the government has passed new directives regrading speed camera's

1)ALL must be painted entirely bright yellow within 6 months

2)they must be clearly visible to the drivers affected by them from 60m with a speed limit of 40, and visible from 100m with a faster speed limit

3)they will no longer be sneakily concealed

4)warnings must be given to motorists a minimum of 1KM before they camera, and no false warnings must be given to trick motorists

5)camera's will only be installed on accident black spots where 4 people have been killed in the last 3 years, or 10 people have suffered serious personal injury, any camera that doesnt fall under this directive will be up rooted

there are many more points about the new scheme, but those are the main ones, i think you will all agree its good news

Hi

We can hope, but Staffordshire will try and get round this by saying there gave been 4 deaths on the A34, so the whole of the A34 is an accident black spot.

Mind you, what do you expect from a country whose idea of road safety is a 30% increase in deaths

All the best

Keith

Is this for the whole country?... or just for areas that the police get to keep revenue from cameras?

i was on the A41 travelling back from london, on a moped, that isnt capable of more than 50mph

national speed limit on A roads, unless otherwise indicated = 50mph

so gimme a break

and yes G every single one must be painted yellow within 6 months, its so people wont feel like they are there to catch them out

Hi

It is 60 on a single carraiway road road, 70 on a dual carraigeway. However if there is street lighting then the limit is 30, but there must be a 30 limit sign at the start of the area. If the 30 limit is there because of street lighting (think the lights must be less than 200m apart) then no repeater signs are required, but if the 30 limit is there due to a traffic order then the repeater signs are legally required

Yes, the law really is a total mess

All the best

It may or may not be true, but I read somewhere that for some bizzare reason they actually *weren't* allowed to repeat 30 signs in areas with street lights.

Hi

That is correct, although there is nothing to prevent them from painting a big "30" in the middle of the road

I think my area isnt too bad for cameras. I very rarely see one in telford anyway, although I do see signs saying they are about. I go down a road through Woodside nearly every day, and have never seen a speed camera, even though there are signs. Isnt that illegal??

Hi

Not illegal, and will only be dubious from about a months time in the areas where they get to keep the cash. Even then it is not a defence, but it does mean that you can complain and prevent them getting a share of the fines

All the best
