My bike was stolen sunday evening, Police rang me today to say that they had found someone on it riding it yesterday and he's been arrested.

He's 15 and from quite a shitty estate.

I not sure what to do here..

Do i a) Prosecute for Damage Caused, Inconvienience, Court Costs etc,

or b) do i be a good citizen and get him cautioned and an apology off him with the hope that this will make him realise its not to late to sort his life out as there wont always be people willing to do this along his "career".

Any help guys greatly apprechiated... Also if i was to go for Option a, how much damage do i get quoted up? .. to an "as new" condition or how it was before?

Cheers, Perry

Not sure how you're being a 'good citizen' letting a bike theif off (what's the betting this isn't his first and won't be his last).

Not that going through the courts will do much anyway - as he'll pay it back at £1 a week, when he's 18 and won't do that anyway Rolling Eyes.
You'd be asking for monies to get the bike back to it's previous state.

My advice would be to use more specific thread titles and not use caps, which is generally considered rude Razz.

Can't believe you asked this..

Get him done, Then bash his fuckin head in a month or so later. If you're quite a bit older get someone else to do it. 15 or not he was big enough to steal a bike, Big enough to take a broken nose.

The kid was old enough to know what he was doing and I'd suspect it wasn't his first offence (even if it may have been the first he'd got caught for).

If you don't wanna do the time, then don't do the crime.

Prosecute the sod. Resources, time and money have gone into catching the scrote, he shouldnt be allowed to get off.
I dont want to waste my tax pound by spening a small fortune catching someone and then letting him go with a 'dont do it again'

As for costs, quote for what it would be if you were to buy the bike again today.

Crucify the scrote for all the other little scrotes to see. I'll give you the nails.

you lose both ways,

but if you do get him prosecuted it counts as a strike on his record 2 more arrests for something and he gets dragged into court for EVERYTHING criminal in the future its the law apparently (not quite like the US 3 strike rule),

I'd say either hire a gang to get him capped (at which you lose again cus you have to pay for knee capping AND via taxes thr NHS costs).

or prosecute him and trap your bike, when he comes back for revenge

Not sure what you're asking - it's the police that prosecute him, not you. If they are saying do you want to press charges (which is strange anyway) then the answer's yes. As far as recovering costs for damages - that gets tricky.
I tried to sue the burglar who broke into my house for damages and uninsured losses, only to be told that even if I won he wouldn't be able to pay it as he had no assets (apart from the proceeds of my theft). Rolling Eyes

Urgh you and my other half would get on so well.
He's a complete and utter pacifist and thinks even murderers and rapists don't understand what they do and need 'help'.
Where as I say bring out the damn electric chair again or give them a good hang draw and quarter [don't know what it exactly entails but it sounds quite nasty, I'm thinking Braveheart ending Wink ].

He is 15, the most he will get is a slap on the wrist. Pity the parents can't be held responsible for his actions. Thumbs Down

Nope, as he is 15 if he admits anything he can be taken to the Youth court and given a Youth sentence when I was knocked off a bike last year and I let the youth have a bash at me, I got a witness and the CPS took it to court, he got a £40 fine, community service and I got it(the cash) off the courts 6 month later when he paid them. He gets the bonus of a criminal record for when he starts applying for Jobs etc. Thumbs Up I have of course made sure he won't be doing it again in a hurry since(or his 'crew').

The legal minimum age for a youth to be prosecuted is 12.

And that means what ????

It does not matter where you live, the lad needs to be taught a lesson.
Peferably one that will mean he wont do it again. God forbid, but at times the muslims have the right idea.....

A slap on the wrist from PC plod will mean he's back out and nicking someone elses bike tommorow..... Or you might as well just give him your bike and say its OK mate i will go and get another while you keep this one... Confused

I bet you were screaming blue murder when it was nicked and now this..... FFS the answer is obivous... Twisted Evil

No trial, Straight to DEATH!

I reckon they should bring in the 'eye-for-an-eye' laws. You kill someone, you will die the same way. So steal a £5000 motorbike, you loose £5000 from something of yours and watch it crushed.

My bike was recently stolen, and now recovered, found abdoned with random wires pulled out and a fucked ignition...

Most likely the same kinda people that the police have found.

Prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law, and then if you have the will and means lay some retribution down,

As said a slap on the wrists and a caution may stop him for a couple of days, but then he will be out nicking my bike again...

Get him known as a bike theif, help us all...
