I'm finding that anything over 40 miles on the Gixxer gives me wrist ache, i'm a pen pusher by trade so have girly wrists ( the wife won 't let me build up strength in them by myself)!!

i was thinking of trying some support but not sure what to go for, i want the support but don't want to cut off the blood or be uncomfortable under gloves.

Any ideas or links would be appreciated.

Scott

Try stopping for brief rest every 39 miles.

That way you'll never actually ride over 40 miles - hey presto, problem solved!

wrist supports arent a great idea - try bar risers and alter the position you are riding in.

Maybe you need to relax a little whilst riding, maybe the ache is from holding on too tight and tensing the muscles. Try forcing yourself to hold on firmly but not tense, so a light touch but in control and relax your arms. A bike will go in a straight line it doesn't really need a rider to do that much.

When I started to relax on the NC, the ache in my right wrist went a way however the clutch still makes my left wrist hurt more than ache. The only answer to that is not to use it.

Having said that I don't know you might be really relaxed. If thats the case try wanking at work away from your wife.

Random question Kara: what is your handspan like?

I was just wondering if adjustable levers such as my training school use would help...

First off, how long have you had the bike and how long has this been a problem?

If new bike and it hurts then IMO down to the bike. Could be you just need time to get used to it. On mine the bars are a bit of a reach compared to the old one. So I got stuff to raise the bars a little. Trouble is in the 4 weeks or so it took to find time to do the job I'd got used to the bike so didn't bother.

I also got an adjustable clutch lever as around town my hand was just aching. Made a lot of difference.

It could be your levers just need moving to suit you. This is a 2 person job. You sit on the bike in riding position. Other person loosens them, get them in the position and then tightens. It could also be that you're just holding on too tight.

So, in summary, if new to bike then (a) give it some time or (b) adjust bars and/or levers as necessary.

If you've had the bike a while and this has just happened then nip down to the GP as the advice you'll get there would be preferable to that given on a bike forum.

HTH Thumbs Up

I have quite small hands, I can't ride the NC at the moment as I now have abroken scaphoid as well, but those adjustable levers seem worth a go! Cheers!

You have my sympathies on the scaphoid - I did mine a couple of years ago.

Just take it easy when you get the all clear and build the strength up in the wrist gradually before taking any long rides! Smile
