hello,
I recently bought some swat boots as i wanted some good waterproof boots, recommended by mister james in this post https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=104075&highlight=waterproof+boots
and I must say that I am very pleased, they are comfy, very light and indeed waterproof.

Unfortunately as they are not motorcycle boots they have no gear change scuff pad and I am worried about compromising the leather and causing leaks, so I was wondering if it is possible to buy a stick-on scuff pad or some kind of wrap-around velcro thing to protect from gear change scuff.
I googled it but had no luck, does anyone know of anything?

thanks.

I thought of that but I reckoned that stitching something to them would cause leaks as I would be perforating the leather.

Thanks anyway.

I stand corrected. I just assumed it would.
What did you stitch on?

Thanks

why not get a neoprene wrist support and cut it to a band a stick it over your boot.

I bought some nitro boots off ebay for £20 to wear in the rain and they haven't leaked yet, and have they seen some bad weather.

The strap from America will brobably be more £20

I usually use hitech magnums for my 'daily' bike boots and haven't found a big problem with the gear change - though I probably mostly ride bikes with a rubber coated one?

Just google for "shifter skinz". I think they'll show up on eBay at least.

I think the reason they're hard to find in the UK is because most bikers like to wear good protection. Getting something to slip over your trainers (like in the photos - click here) is IMO something a bit chavish.

I almost bought some magnums but ended up going for the SWAT's.
My gear change is rubber coated, just concerned what it will do to the boots after a thousand gear changes!
They are quite big boots and I normally find myself changing gear with the end of the gear change rather than get my foot fully under with the gear change spread across my toes so the mark is about an inch square on my boots and i just wanted something to spread the pressure on the leather.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

Just turn your gears into a 1-up, 4-down configuration, and never slow down.

What the hell is going on with all those spiked crash protectors and bar ends on that page?! Those things could be lethal in a crash, worst idea ever!!

The "shifter skinz" seem like a good idea, but i dunno why you don't just get some proper motorcycle boots like alpinestars of sidi's.

I've got 'old-school' friends who ride in cowboy boots - have done forever. You boots should be fine.

Don't stress yourself over it.

I've had mine for nearly a year now, and wear them for 30 miles a day on the bike, as well as 44hrs a week at work in the centre. I've not had a problem with water-tightness, although I occasionally rub in a bit of dubbin to be on the safe side!
