Well i got my M.O.T done today and while I was there I was looking around the showroom of Double R Motorcycles in Leytonstone (East London) for a while and I must say the guy who owns the place is a top bloke, I'm only 17 and he knew there wasn't a chance that I was going to buy any bikes off of him because I had only recently purchased my Aprilia RS125 elsewhere.
Anyway back to the point, I was taking a look round and he realised I was interested in the bigger bikes (Suzuki GSXR 1000, Kawasaki Ninja 600 & Hyosung GT650 R) and after I asked him what the weight difference was between my Aprilia RS125 and these larger bikes he insisted I go around the showroom and sit on all the big bikes I want to and see how they feel in comparison, having sat on the likes of the above mentioned bikes as well as a Yamaha R6, and a few Harley Davidsons I came to the conclusion that the superbikes are not nearly as heavy as some people make them out to be, I've always been told that the difference in weight between my Aprilia RS125 and other bigger bikes would be immense and the Aprilia would feel incredibly small in comparison yet having tried them I cannot help but feel as if though some people 'big up' how hard there bikes are to ride when they're not.
Ok, so coming to my question, all I did was sit on them and roll them backwards and forwards, however one of the blokes in the shop told me to come back when I had a full license and he'd let me test ride a few and advised me to sit on as many bikes as possible when shopping for my next bike. Can the more experience riders tell me how they could best describe the different between my Aprilia RS125 when actually riding them (other than the rather obvious speed difference).
I also fell in love with the Yamaha R6 and asked the bloke about what it would be like to insure on a restricted license and he told me it would be cripplingly high at my age, how much would you think I could get it for third party only with (by then) two years no claims bonus?
I also got a sit on a Kawasaki ZZR 400 and felt as though the difference between that and my Aprilia in terms of weight was nothing, whats the jump from 125 to 400 like then all you 400cc riders?
Finally if anyone from Double R Motorcycles is reading this thanks a bunch for all your help and advice, & I recommend the place to anyone locally! Thanks for reading this and any replies would be appreciated... ____________________ I Ride: Honda CBR 400RR.
