...what would you say the cheapest price I could find one at? it would have to be running but I wouldn't particularly care if the bodywork was scruffy as I can have it resprayed, I'm not particularly bothered about the age...

Cheapest on Biketrader is £2100 and it's actually good value for that I'd say. After that it goes up to around £2300-2400. Also some pretty good value ones there too (e.g 1999 for £2.3k with 6500 miles). You may find one for £2000 if you hold out long enough or one with scratched body panels for about £1750 or so? Maybe less if they were actually cracked rather than just scratched.

The reason there are less "really cheap" R6's is they only came out in limited numbers for 1998 and then properly in 1999.

Make sure if you do find a "bargain" that you check everything for crash damage though, as it could cost more to fix up that what you pay for it. Wink

"I can always respray it"

Wow experience is a wonderful thing.

You could pick up an R6 for £2k, maybe cheaper, but the kind of riders they attract most likely mean they've been binned many times. Search for "LukeVFR" if you're unsure what I mean.

Consider a zx6r. Also just for fun, get a quote for a full respray from dream machine.

Why not get a decent, good condition ZX6R on a 98/99/00 for about £1700-2000??

Or SRAD??

Why do you recommend a ZX6r? are they cheaper? are they in your opinion better? are they faster unrestricted? I know who Luke VFR is, & I feel very sorry for his bikes, out of curiosity though if a bike has been 'ragged' rather than binned shouldn't it be able to 'handle' this kind of thrashing, I was under the impression that's what these bikes were designed to be rode like.
I spray bikes, so if I did it it would be free, however with an R6 I would want something special and so my fathers friend who happens to be a professional bodywork spray-painter charges me £100 for the spraying of a bike, any colour/s. A picture of his previous work for me, my first Aprilia RS50 (which was stolen) Crying or Very sad :

Nothing much in between the 600's from 1996 to 2002 really. Unless your Rossi (or Stoner) your not going to tell.

I've had 3 Ninja's and now the R6. R6 does look better but I was probably quicker and more confident on my Ninjas.

Also, I seen 166mph on my old Ninjas and haven't got the R6 up near that yet...

SRAD, don't like the styling too much but same again, it will be quick and you'll find a good condition one for about the same price as a hack of an R6.

Just my 2p's worth.

Also another thing to consider is that an R6 that cheap may have the 2nd gear problem (hence why it's so cheap). It's unlikely the seller will actually tell you, he'll just hope you don't know and probably won't let you test ride.

Basically it's where it jumps out of second gear if you rev it even slightly hard. You'd think it would be an easy fix, but it takes so long the labour charges are extortionate from a garage and it's a bugger to do yourself unless you're a mechanic.

Also listen to cc123. Unless you specifically "must" have an R6 then there are other sports 600's that are just as good.
