Heavily moded 1936 (I think) Ariel Red Hunter.
I intend to win Red Marley Hill Climb ( pre 55 rigid class) on it next year after hitting it with a load of cash.

Excellent, I have been wanting to embark on a project with an old bike for ages, do you have any links for information I can read?

Where did you find that one? on e-bay?

I heard about it through a mate, he knows I want to break my neck hill-climbing and thought that may be a reasonable weapon of execution.
Old bikes a great fun, some makes command a lot of money though, Velos, Triumphs, Vincents all have a cash bonus attached to the name, Ariel, Grieves, BSA do not seem to.
Look for what you want and expect to pay as much again as the purchasing price to get it well sorted. Join an owners club and remover un-restored and ridden is better than a flash painted tart of a show bike

I do agree with what you say though , An unrestored has character that a restored bike could never have , I do prefer un restored bikes and would take a good one over my Ariel any day.

I like that, it would make an awesome base for a chop! I wouldn't change the frame, though. It's got nice proportions.

Well I just shook hands over the phone with the owner and put a cheque in the post, it is now my bike.
All I need to do now is get a van down to London and pick her up.
Very Happy

Went to red marley a few years back.

Me dad burnt his clutch out completely on his 350 BSA Laughing

Was a good day out! IIRC There was a hideous "Jump" right near the top of the hill, that claimed many... followed by an equaly horrific ride back down the side of the hill with no brakes Laughing

Was a cracking day though, truely was.

This is what Red Marley is about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZlX9mADuM8
After watching my mate Marc break his ribs and thumb this year I decided that I needed to have as much fun as he had and resolved to build a bike for the job.
My head is full of plans and drawings. If I ask nice will Keith give me a BCF sticker for it?

Spent a lot of hours this week working on her and she is now starting to look like I want her to. The main bearings and flywheels are so smooth they will spin if I fart at them. The engine plates are the second set I have made as I was not happy with the first lot, They are a Kilo lighter than the origionals.

I doubt you'd see Rossi at an event like that because, unlike seemingly all the other competitors present, he isn't a) fat, b) old and c) he probably has better things to do than crash a knackered old relic of a bike whilst trying to get halfway up a hill that a modern MX bike would eat for breakfast.

All that was needed was a bit of barbed wire (and some Germans) and you could have recreated the jump scene from 'The Great Escape'.

Realy? I thought Rossi might just turn up.
Has anyone ever pointed out what a twat you are? If so they may well have pointed out that it was Bud Ekins that jumped not McQueen.

Have a read of that then go and fuck yourself.
