grandpa takes a tumble!!!

evening all......

i recently helped my grandfather to get back into biking, buying him a dirt cheep chineese 125 ( i know, but he only likes crusiers because he's a short arse ).

It's week 2 since he started riding again after 37 years and he seems to be getting the hand of it......

But:

we went for a short bimble upto wigan to see one of his old friends, me on the bandit, him on this singua(?) thing....all was fine on the ride. As we pulled upto the driveway, he turned off his engine and put his sidestand out, but not fully, and proceded to topple over, ending up undernieth the bike!

i had just dismounted and was in the process of taking my lid off when i realised what was going on, i dropped the lid, threw the 125 off him and checked he was alright. he'd a very small cut on his leg from the peg, but was otherwise fine, if not a bit embarassed. The bike did not fair so well. The twist grip throttle had ripped off, taking the nipple off the cable, the front side light and indicatior was gone ( plastic crap ) and the clutch leaver was bent......a bit of roadside tool less bodgery later and the 125 thingy was ok to ride, so we limped home.....

still, when we got back to his house, he was straight on the phone to get replacement parts so he can ride about tommorow!!! respect

i wish that was his bike ( turns out its a sanili BH 125 ).....the above photo is him posing on a random guy's chop a few months ago.......complete with the guys helmet!

The Sanili is basically a copy of a Kawasaki BN125 Eliminator by the looks of it.

How long has he had it? Might be worth you just checking the exhaust bolts every now and again as they have developed a nasty habit of shearing on Chinese customs in the last few months.

How did the throttle (RHS) and the clutch lever (LHS) both get bucked?

Glad to hear there was no major harm done, and good luck to him. Teach him how to use the inter-web so he can join here lol.

i have no idea how both ends of the handlebar controls got buggered, it looks like he pulled up on the twist grip to keep the bile vertical and it came off in his hand, the clutch leaver hit the ground.......

oh, he's 67 and still going strong. I took him upto the chineese bikes spares shop in wigan today to get a new throttle body and cable, and he's seen a custom for a grand and a half that he intends to buy ( get in!) He's just got to convince my granny not to go on holiday in november

the next door nieghbour has a norton single ( i think its a 500, not sure) from the same year as my grandfather was born, but he's more into the 'american chopper' aesthetic....
