https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/mcn/2007/august/august1-5/august0107jamestoselandsignsformotogpstech3yamaha/

Seems he's signed for tech 3 Yamaha although the BBC site says he's signed for a factory Yamaha team Confused

Going to be interesting to see how he does next year, thankfully he won't be on Dunlops!

Bad move in my opinion! Toseland has the tallent to be up there with the best of them but on the Tech3 bike he is going to be lucky to push top 10.

There is so little in the lap times these days he needs all the advantage he can get.

I guess he is hoping he can ride reasonably well on the Tech 3 bike and get a factory ride because of it.

You can not seriously tell me there are many riders in the current moto gp field much better than JT?

I'd say you could put Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa above JT but not any of the others.

Sorry, it just pisses me off that our top tallent aren't getting the proper breaks.

It's a good move. He should be given a better bike imo, but not hand fed like Stoner has been Rolling Eyes

He has had plenty of years behind him in WSB, like they say its time to move on. WSB know this also, hence offering such a huge pay cheque offer if he stayed next season.....

JT in Motogp, cant wait.

Problem is, the poor bloke is gonna be struggling to get anywhere near the front. Look how bad the Yamaha ***FACTORY*** team has been struggling this year, do you think Tech 3 are gonna be anywhere near the front?

I don't. If Rossi can't make the Yamaha work then neither can JT, anything other than a full factory ride is a waste of time. In fact, i would have fancied his chances more on a Kwak!

It's great for MotoGP, especially in Britain, but I don't think it's the best move for JT.

Is it cos he fecked up at Suzuka?

I agree, would be hurtful to see him mid packed representing our country when he does have the talent to even win some races in motogp.
Wouldnt the gresini (sp) honda deal have been the better bet?

Stoner has talent, lots of it, he was lucky enough to finally get a team who listened to him who have made the bike work for him and his riding style, capirossi is hardly matching Stoners pace is he. Sure he's been lucky that Bridgestone are also doing a brilliant job this year but the fact is that he is beating Rossi fair and square. It's good to have more talent out there and hopefully next season when the manufacturers have got to grips with the 800's a bit more we're going to have a good fight for the title, Stoner, Rossi, Pedrosa, Lorenzo all capable of taking it, it's better than watching Rossi run away with it for 5 years running.

To be honest it might have been slightly better but to win races he's gonna need every advantage he can get, by that, i mean factory support. Just having a factory bike over a non-factory machine has to be worth a few tenths per lap?? With the racing being as close as it is (in terms of times lap times) you've already got a massive dis-advantage.

Saying that, it's quite difficult to gauge how close the Tech 3 machines are to the Factory ones because of the tyres. I think they should stay away from Bridgestones ( i know they're the tyres to have at the mo), so that they can share as much data as possible with the factory boys.

It's just annoying because you can't tell me Hayden deserves his ride anymore than JT. Ok ok, i know he wont the title, but he isn't going to be doing that again anytime soon....

Not this year you won't but Honda seem to have fixed their teething problems with the bike and Hayden has improved a lot, we might see a lot more of Hayden for the rest of the season.

I didn't say you won't see him pushing for top places but with Honda improving, the little man Pedrosa is also getting better.

And i stand by what i said in that bit you quoted, you won't see Hayden winning the tittle anytime soon, in-fact you wont see Hayden winning another title. My point is, Toseland is as good as Hayden yet he ends up on the pile of crap Tech 3 bike. He might as well have stayed in WSB.

I thought he'd be on a Honda but hey it will be good to see what he can do.
The tech3 yamaha might be half competitive with a decent set of tyres on it.
So is Edwards still rumored to be signing for tech3 as it would be a shame to see Sylvain Guintoli left out, his been impressive so far this season.

Toseland has been really good in WSB but his never ridden in MotoGP so how can he be better then everybody else.
Colin Edwards was really good in WSB but has never really brought his magic to MotoGP...
I know its good to be patriotic and everything but all of the riders in MotoGP are super talented, so to say somebody who has done well in a different race series is better then them is jumping the gun a little.

Stoner hasn't been hand fed Smile
He took a massive gamble leaving Honda the biggest manufacture in MotoGP to get a factory ride at a much smaller inconsistent Italian team.
Most people including myself would have thought that Honda would have dominated the 800cc class for the first few years, just because of the amount of money and development they put into there racing department. With the other teams taking a few seasons to catch up with the new technology.

I mean how was Stoner supposed to know that Honda would completely Fcuk up there new 800cc bike and that Ducati would build one that not only leaves the others for dead with its speed but is also proving more reliable.

Score, tech 3 are being upraded from a satellite team to one with full factory support, Toseland might do well next season! So shut up complaining about brits not being given a chance Andrew. Wink

Capirossi has gone to shit since he got hitched and after she dropped a sprog he is like a limp dick -useless-

I used to like the guy but really he shouldn't even be on the grid as he is only riding 90 % of his ability,

Are you suggesting that JT isn't super talented? Also, do you think Nicky Hayden (in terms of talent) is more deserving of full Honda factory support than James Toseland? Because i don't. And the fact that Colin Edwards hasn't done much in Moto GP does nothing to change my mind that JT would easily be in the top 5 if he had the right package.

As usual with Moto GP, it's who you know, unfortunately for us James Toseland isn't going to get the backing that others are getting and to be honest i think he's wasting his time in Moto GP.

Slightly off the point, I saw JT's wife sitting in the cafeteria at the WSB at Silverstone.

Completely forgot about the bikes!

Nope but his never competed in MotoGP so his not super talented in MotoGP yet is he.
I'm sure he will be very good but I can think of a few more riders then the ones you listed that I think will finish above him next season.

Well Hayden is in the middle of a two year contract so it doesn't really matter if his more talented or not his still going to be there next season.
But personally if I was the boss of Honda and had the choice between a one, maybe two time WSB champion but rookie in the motoGP class or a Former AMA Champion, consistent good finisher and current MotoGP world Champion.
My money would be on Hayden even if he has taken a while to gel with the 800, but thats not to say I don't think Toseland will do well.

He may do very well with a second factory team. Thumbs Up

I heard a rumour (it might only be a rumour) that Tech 3 are looking to run bridgestones next year.

Doesn't really matter as long as he is not on Dunlops Very Happy

Anyone else think JT might have the same problems as Hayden?

The 800 GP bikes seem to suit small blokes (Pedrosa @43kg!) and holding high corner speed.

WSB bikes (and the circuits they ride at to some extent) seem to be a bit like the old 990's, favouring almost a point&squirt approach to corners - hard late breaking, and using the grunt to blast out of the bend.

JT is going to be up against the guys, like Stoner, who've come from 250GP where coner speed is king. JT started out in WSS and BSB on big bikes. Is his style going to suit the 800's?

No, but i reckon that he's still got time to learn how to ride differently and within a season i reckon he'll be very close to the top of the pack.

Looks like he's definatley going then.

I'd rather see him on a Honda, only Rossi can make the Yamaha go well, and even he's struggling.

News 01/08/2007
Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP rider announcement

Tech 3 Yamaha would like to announce that it has secured the services of James Toseland for the 2008 season. The British rider will begin his MotoGP career with the Yamaha factory supported organisation next year.

Toseland – who is currently leading the Superbike World Championship by 43 points – has already proved his racing credentials. He was the youngest ever World Superbike Champion in 2004 and is aiming to secure the title once again this season.

“I am delighted to have secured a rider of James’ calibre and am looking forward to working with him,” says Team Principal Herve Poncharal. “Procuring James is a major coup for Tech 3 Yamaha and for the MotoGP championship in extending our reach into Northern Europe. It is an exciting time for us all and I am certain that he will be an integral part of the team’s future.”

Further details, including James’ team structure will be announced in due course.

Much will depend upon how much effort Yamaha want to put into turning Tech 3 into a decent factory team, and what tyres they will use. After all the talk from JT about waiting for the right package and not repeating the moves of Ellison, Hogdson etc I hope he has had the guarentees...

Almost - it's what nationality you are (to a degree), and British is not the correct answer. Italian and Spanish companies put a lot of advertising revenue through MotoGP/World Superbikes, so it's no surprise to see same nationality riders on the bikes for those teams.
