Bad 1st Service

I got up early today to take my bike in for its first service. This basically consists of them changing the oil and filter and perhaps giving the bike a once over.

What annoys me is that its a simple job that I can do myself but it would not be under warranty any more (so they say). So I duly took my bike 35 miles to the garage where I bought it from, waited an hour and half and then I was reunited with my steed.

Just looked at my bike now and I have noticed that there's oil dripping underneath it. Turns out the sump screw was not in properly, only halfway in!

So I tightened it up and rang the dealer to complain the guy was very apologetic and refunded the cost of my first service.

So that was that then I began to wonder what else they may have done wrong, well they have only gone and over filled it as well so that means that I rode back to work with a bike with too much oil in while leaking at the same time.

Wish I had done it myself now, any chance the engine being damaged with it being overfilled and then ridden 35 miles to work?

I feel a letter coming on...

Shouldn't bother it but it might be worth checking your airbox to make sure it hasn't breathed a load of oil out through the crankcase breather into it.

Isn't your first service normally free (providing you bought a NEW bike), apart from oil and filter?

As far as I know, the first service on a new bike is - as you say - oil and filter. Being an old fashioned gal, do they still torque down the head on this service? Or is it not needed with this new technological wizardry these days?

I would definitely sent a snotogram to them. This is a really basic service, and as you say, you could have done it yourself and at least know it had been done properly. It sounds like the mechanic was either the poor apprentice that hadn't been trained properly, or a slightly more experienced chappie with too little time. Either way, if it were me, I wouldn't be too happy either.

BTW, who was it? I can understand if you'd rather not say on a public forum, though...
