Well, just got home from work via a ditch, damn @sshole waiting at the junction I was turning onto from the main road, I got about 10ft from the junction and the ass pulls out! Had a choice of t boning the car and wrecking the front end of the bike with 60 miles to get home or see how the bike performs at grass tracking - not too great really.

To make the situation better, the F'er kept on going! I've now got a smashed headlamp, forks twisted in the head, busted ignition switch, bent case guard, bend bars, cracked mirror, 3 remaining indicators, 7 different grazes on my legs and 4 on my arm, oh and a stinking headache!

I know it could have been worse, but I'm still pissed, had to ride most the way home with 1 hand on the ignition switch to stop the bike shutting down, after removing the headlight to reconnect the starter wire that was torn out of the connector, but the absolute worst part...

It happened near my olf favorite fishing spot on the river and I didn't even have any fishing gear to calm myself down.

Ok, venting over, time for pain pills...

Abi.

So at which part did you ring the police to report the driver leaving the scene of an accident?

Glad to hear you got home all right, how much do you reckon it's going to cost you?

Called the fuzz after removing my leg from under the bike, climbing out of the ditch and then lighting a smoke.

As far as cost to fix, nothing for now (hopefully I don't find anything else busted) as I have a fairing (Mad max style, love those movies) that was on the bike when I got it, so I can throw that back on to fix the lighting probs, then I have to reseal the ignition switch as the case has popped open, so every time I hit a bump the internals would spring free and kill the power, and then realign the forks and beat the crap out of the case guard and bars.

Hopefully the bike will be road worthy again tomorrow.

I'm now calming down a bit so I'm starting to be glad that the situation happened how it did, any other way and it might have been more than the bike getting parts broken!

Abi.

Edit: Cops showed up as I'd finally gotten the bike on the road again, took my details and said there's probably very little to be done about it.

Didn't actually hit my head, just from having a bad ride home and too many cigs (every 10 minutes when I'd pull over to wedge the ignition barrel back in place). All that I got was my elbow sliding along the ditch and my legs getting smacked around on the bike frame/engine.currently got my elbow all wrapped up as it's grazed right on the joint so I want to immobilise my arm while I sleep - I move around too much at night, I know from previous experiences that it's not fun to wake up screaming when knocking a scar during sleep.

I did manage to vent some more pent up aggresion this evening, Took a mallet to the case guard, 1 less thing to repair in the morning.

Abi.

I have every sympathy. I bailed out onto a grass verge on Tuesday night after a car travelling the opposite direction decided to overtake a stationery vehicle and use my side of the road just as I came around a bend.

The choices : Hit the car or go off road. I dropped the bike, as he/she drove off into the distance.

Bike: lhd fairing and cockpit fairing, clutch lever , bar end, gear selector, cener stand, lhs pannier and crank case cover.
Kit: 2mth old x spirit unuseable.
Me: bumps and bruises - shoulder is really sore 4 days later and right hand looks like a bears paw.

My first off since 1982..... and it seems to hurt more. Must be an age thing.

I am rally pissed at the insurance implications...never claimed in 26 years..

Glad you are reatively unhurt, that is the most important point when all is said and done. Keep Laughing

Did Abi get the reg number?? was there any witnesses?? what do you want them to do ya muppet, close the road and get forensics down for 6 hours incase there's a tyre print from the offending vehicle which could just be a possible match from 150,000 other tyres like it................grow up ya daft sod!

Glad you're OK Abi.

Johnny, stop talking sense. There is cop bashing to be had! Razz

Were you scared when it was happening or kind of just resigned to an attitude like "Oh well here I go..."?

I knew exactly what the cop would say, but here (Illinois, USA) the police have to be called to any accident, injuries/damage or not.

Thankfully I have (as of later today had) a naked bike so there's no plastic to replace and it was a very low speed spill.

Also means no insurance claim, haven't had one of those in 12 years and would like to keep it that way.

Legs feel better now that the grazes have scabbed over a bit, elbow is a pain in the ass tho, every time I move my arm it twists the flesh around the grazes.

Abi.

When the car first pulled out, I went into autopilot and swerved to avoid, unfortunatley there was only about 12" of grass as a verge before a 3' deep ditch, by the time I was able to think what was happening, I was stopped, had hit the kill switch and had dragged my leg from under the bike, I remember as soon as the front wheel hit the grass it went out from under the bike so I let off the brake to try and save it, just didn't have any room to do anything before I went down the ditch.

Wasn't scary at the time, I guess my brain just shut off the emotions while it tried to preserve my body.

Even after I'd come to my senses, I wasn't scared or anything, relieved at first, then pissed that the car had kept going, and then concerned that the bike may be too badly damaged to ride home, and finally relieved again at seeing how little damage there actually was.

Second most annoying thing of the day - first being the accident itself, was that while I was dragging the bike out of the ditch, 3 cars drove past, drivers looking at me and not a single one stopped, I guess drivers in this area are just so concerned about other drivers/riders safety.

The town cop (we only have 1 in this town) stopped by today, he'd been informed that I was involved in a wreck and asked how I was, how the dog was (dog had been swimming in his pond, thats how I got introduced to the cop - another story though), asked how much damage was done to the bike and asked if I wanted to bother with all the paperwork. I asked if the paperwork would do anything useful and the reply was that it would just make him stay on duty an extra 1/2 hour and then sit in a filing cabinet for a few years, I didn't waste the time or ink, so officially there was no accident, my bike and body just magically got bashed up while riding safely home, end of story.

I wish there was something that can be done, but realistically, without any vehicle details (grey Buick Century was all I know, there's only a few thousand around here, shouldn't be too difficult to find huh?) there's nothing can be accomplished. I'm resigned to the fact that I was very lucky how things went, that the bike only recieved superficial damage, and that I came away with only minor injuries. Overall it is muh better than my last wreck, 17 y/o, DTR125 vs a Rover Metro passenger door, I landed on the passenger seat, again from a driver pulling out of a junction in front of a bike.

As for the attitude of cops, the ones I spoke with the last couple of days have been firendly, and to the point, the local cop here assuser me that if I wanted to do the papers then I could, didn't seem to mind the possibility of wasting his time, the cop that arrived on scene took my details and brief statement, offered me a ride to hospital to be checked over, gave the bike a check over in case I'd missed any damage, and was pretty much concerned for me all the time he was there.

Other time's I've had cops that have just wanted to shout as much and as loud as possible for making them get out of their nice warm car in the middle of winter and stuff like that, there's gooduns and baduns, doesn't mean I like cops, doesn't mean I hate them, just that if I need assistance then they are there, and if I misbehave there's the possibility they'll be there too, I'd rather have a cop give me a speeding ticket then have a wreck and not have a cop to help out.

Thanks for the concern guys, it's something I've noticed with BCF that makes this place far far better than a lot of the other bike sites around, I'm proud to be a member here.

Abi.

Put the sissy bar on and find some huge chrome engine bars. Then I'd recommend a fringed leather seat with a few nickel plated conchos, and maybe a set of Screamin' eagle "live to ride" emblazoned mirrors. Go on, you know it makes sense Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the off though, on a more serious note. Hope the running repairs work out OK, judging by the "beat shit out of..." it sounds like you haven't forgotten how to use a brummy screwdriver Wink

LOL, just what I needed to read after waking up - I hate mornings! (although there's thunderstorms here so I get a day off work since my truck is off the road waiting for parts).

The problems I see with that setup is, I don't like pudding bowl helmets, and my clothes don't have enough studs fitted to them, I have a pretty sequined jumper, you think that'll work?

Also, do you think I should get a set of hard panniers and top box that can hold more stuff then my garage?

I'm a qualified auto tech, I know the first tool to come out of the box every time is the "Irish/Brummy/Geordie/Insert other names screwdriver". I thought it was a law, or has that changed?

Abi.
