im not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i'm dying to get into the motorcycle engineering industry, every time i try to find something i seem to hit a brick wall, i've spoken to pretty much all the dealers and mechanics in my area but they all say they dont take on apprentices.
any advice?

There is a national apprenticeships organisation thing, might be worth trying them, or the job centrer perhaps?

Been to college? if not get yourself there, you might have to do something a bit more general engineering wise before you can do anything specific.
In all honesty being a mechanic is not all that much fun, working on your own is well and good but having a big line of them waiting to do and only a small amount of time to do them Thumbs Down

My advice is to aim higher, minimum go to college, you might find a motor sport course or similar even, or an apprenticeship for general engineering

Good luck

I'm in a car apprenticeship and our training centre has Aprilia there on same site so there must be dealers taking apprentices. Problem is they're rarer than car apprenticeships and theyre hard enough to get. Most will have gone straight from school so places will already be filled.

Bikes might be more interesting, but working for a dealer in car industry is wank. Thumbs Up

Isn't there something like a Modern Apprenticeship Programme (MAP) for this sort of thing? Generally work related with a few day release or evening college sessions - that way you get a good mix of experience and qualifications at the same time. Many years ago i was on the pilot scheme for this and it did me allright for the field i work in.

Maybe try contacting your local education authority or careers advice service.

don't do it. Personally go for an industrial apprenticeship. Why?

quiet simply because 1. They're more widely available and better paid
2. You get dual skilled in Electrical and Mechanical trades.
3. You can still repair bikes for a hobby and afford it.

I'm at the end of my 1st year apprenticeship now With United Utilities and i'm gonna be doing the fitting NVQ units soon so lathe + miller will be a doddle for me. Not bad for an electrical apprentice and i can weld too (done the NVQ units Thumbs Up )

Better than kicking around a garage all day.

Not if you don't enjoy the latter.
