hey guys,
Im looking to buy myself a bike for the first time next year. Im getting a new occupation in the army and will have loadsa cash by my 17th birthday so i can now afford my dreams, a motorbike. the only thing is i dont know which one to get. i am totally obsessed by them and will ride a new one at any chance i get, which isnt very often seems that i dont hav a provisional or a cbt and can only ride one when a friend brings one over where i have a long drive, (you can get about 50 on a CB125) i Started looking at the RS125 but after reading the reviews i wasnt soo keen because of the self exploding engines and the high prices not to mension the difficulty in retrieving parts. therefore i turned to the NSR which i dismissed before because the RS was suposivly faster, i now think the NSR is the better bike but only on reviews i havent got a riders opinion. could you help me out? cheers |

Absolutely loads on this site mate, lots have asked the same question in the past and many more will no doubt.
Basically the advice goes:
- Don't buy new!
- There is very little in the top speeds of the race type 125's so don't worry yourself about that.
- Don't get an imported NSR as you'll find de-restricting them a nightmare.
- Ensure you use quality 2 stroke oil.
- Get the bike do your test then get a bigger, even more fun bike.
Welcome to the BCF, treat it well and it will do the same for you.

Same situation I found myself in mate, I wanted a bike but had no friends with any and my family didn't know anything about them (only I wasn't 17, I'm a bit older).
I found this site and I'm please to say the people here are more than helpful (if not sarcastic sometimes ).
Two years on I now have passed my test and own a CBR600, understand a lot more about bikes and have made some good friends.
Theres a few people from up your neck of the woods as well (I actually come from Hartlepool but live in Worcester due to work etc.), so you may even be able to meet up with a few locals.
As I said if you search about you'll see a number of posts on what 125 to buy, how to look after bikes and basic maintenance and of course the obligatory which is better nsr v rs thread etc. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Gav do you do any work or what?
Generally between the oldest NSR's 1988 till about 1998 ish
there is very little price difference.
And generally it doesnt matter bcause some older bikes like when i first brought mine, where in better condition than newer bikes around 1996.
in saying that, it isn't now its had me destroying it, but i'm bringing it back to a half decent bike again ____________________ Regards

Take it to a Dyno (£15) or down the drag-strip. Both should help you see if it's restricted ____________________ Back on a Blade. Just feels so right. |

I've got a 2001 NSR - no regrets here.
Haven't passed my test yet so its fully restricted - I'm 6ft3 and not the most aerodynamic person in the world, but I can still get 70 out of it. According to nsr125.com a derestricted nsr125 will do 100-110mph. I'll check that, one day.
The only gripe I have with it, is that the gearbox is a bit clunky betwen 1st and 2nd gear. But it might just be grumbling under the weight of my fat arse. |
